Plex Music agent gives no results

Server Version#: 4.157.0

I have recently added my extensive mp3 library to my plex server.
The ID3 tag on my files simply holds artist and song title, all other fields are empty (at least to me).
As far as I can tell, all files show up in the library.

Now, I’d like for plex to help me with some more metadata on these files. And to try and do it the right way, I found the article on meta data agents.
So, when check the advanced section on the library setup it looks like this:
Scanner: Plex Music
Agent: Plex Music
Prefer local metadata: OFF
Store track progress: OFF
Include related content: ON
Artist Bios: ON
Album Reviews: OFF
Popular Tracks: OFF
Find Lyrics: ON
Concerts: OFF
Genres: Plex Music
Album Art: Plex Music Only

But when I try to refresh metadata, it’s spins for about a second, and then stops. And obviously no information was gathered.

I would very much like for this to work, but am uncertain as how to proceed. Any help is greatly appreciated.
And if I left any important info out, let me know and I’ll provide it.

With Prefer metadata off, you are relying solely on file name matching. Try enabling it and see if that works better.

Perform the plex dance, and see what that does with it enabled

Plex Dance is bookmarked for future reference.

It seems I found the issue.
The files are only tagged with Artist, not Album Artist. Or rather, Album Artist is set to Various Artists.
Manually editing so that Album Artist = Artist and the scanner works perfectly…

Do not blindly apply this strategy to each and every song.
If you have a sampler/compilation-type of album, the Album Artist of all songs on that album must be set to the same name.
