Plex music categories (Pet Shop Boys)

This one has me stumped.

The Pet Shop Boys have 2 albums, Disco 4 and Ultimate, which register as normal albums in Plex, but should be under compilations.

I have other Pet Shop Boys albums, Disco 3 and Discography that have the same tags in Musicbrainz respectively as Disco 4 and Ultimate which show up under compilations.

I can’t work out why it is getting these albums categorized incorrectly. It’s minor but I find it irritating.

Plex recently implemented a change so it will read the album type from an embedded tag, rather than what MusicBrainz says. Is it possible that some of these albums have the album type embedded?

I can’t see any difference in the tags between the ones successfully marked as compilation and the ones that fail

To be clear, that’s only if you’ve enabled “Prefer Local Metadata”. Turn it off and it will use what is from MusicBrainz.

Disco 4 and Ultimate

Did these actually match? I’m not able to get these to match for some reason. Without a match, it won’t have the release type info.

Ultimate didn’t match initially. I tried to match got it and it categorized so that one is fixed.

Disco 4 on the other hand is a mystery. It matches but isn’t registered as a compilation

Can you get me the xml info for the Disco 4 album. See this post on how to get that. Single release type not recognised - #13 by MovieFan.Plex

That indicates PMS has identified this album as an EP and not an album. Is this showing up under “Singles & EPs”? Check the metadata tags for the songs. Looks like the scanner may be finding this from the file. MBZ does have it listed as an album, compilation.

No, not identified as an EP, it is showing up under the albums

And I can’t find anything in the metadata to indicate an EP

It’s getting it from somewhere. It’s possible that MBZ’s is returning different info when PMS makes the request versus what’s on their webpage. Let me do some digging.

That EP format is coming from the related album, Skrillx’s EP Free Treats. I probably shouldn’t have included the related tags. There is no format tag for Disco 4, but there is one for Disco 3

Oops. Sorry. My fault, reading that wrong. Right, so there is no tag for Disco 4, so this defaults to album. Not sure why it’s not getting the tag from MBZ. Can you Plex Dance that album and get me a new server log.
