Hi all. Had some trouble getting Plex to respect explicitly my ID3 tags (all metadata+embedded covers) despite agents being set otherwise…but that is another post.
This one - I have X albums that Plex has now indexed, but the actual number of albums is higher by 2.
It has merged some together (I saw this behavior before with another album and I fixed that one) and I cannot find which ones have suffered this behavior.
From what I see, there is no duplicates filter or a dog ear like Movies to indicate this.
I have repeatedly done media scans but they all come up the same.
How to proceed and find/split these rogue ones? I have access to the logs if someone knows what I should be looking for!
For the record, I have many versions of the same album (CD, high bit rate flac, etc.) and Plex does its best to separate them but it has quirks…it likes to use one artwork for all of them despite again, internal metadata and unique “folder.jpg” files saying otherwise
Yes… All agents are set to local assets at the top. This often does not matter it seems as plex will share artwork for the same albums even though thr folder jpegs and embedded art is different.
A folder view of my library shows the correct count of albums. The grid view shows 2 albums less so 2 albums have been merged into something else. This is what I am trying to find.
I should add that plex also on occasion completely ignores local assets and fetches generic from other sources. Perhaps if I had set it up as a basic library it would have been more strict about this. It is currently a premium library if that sheds any light.
Well, quite by luck I found the suspect album. Thinking that Plex has issues sometimes (often?) with Soundtracks and Various Artists albums, I looked there.
I stumbled across one album that had “[Unknown Album]”.
I can only see it when I switch to folder view. It correctly shows the “artist - album” name as it pulled that from the directory. Tag is wrong of course as Album_Name so it just vanishes from any other view.
Keeping this view and searching for “[Unknown Album]” finds it so at least there is some mechanism in the future to find these rogue items? Note to all…
I would suggest a filter being added that finds these as a new addition down the road? It would save a lot of grief!
I can provide screens if that helps the process along…!
I’ll revisit the naming to ensure everything is bulletproof.
None of this still explains why Plex seems to prefer generic album covers over embedded and explicit ‘folder.jpg’ entries. I often have to manually set the cover and wish Plex was coded that it was a little more forceful with using the embedded items first over anything else.
I didn’t. I just find it bizarre that in the presence of set up ID3 tags and embedded art, it prefers outside sourcing despite the agents and library being set up otherwise. It should explicitly obey ID3 and embeds over anything else IF it is set that way.
Plex feels often that it has a better match than me and corrects my work. I need to often…too often…force lock the album names, etc. even though it is tagged as such.
