I had this issue with plex for years and it is so annoying! I second a button that allows the music library to update the tags to the media server…
Same issue here. I just found this thread while looking for a solution this problem. In particular, I’ve been cleaning up the sort names and artists tags on my music library and I’m amazed that Plex doesn’t pick up the changes even when I do a refresh on the metadata. Deleting and re-creating the library isn’t a great solution since I’d lose all my collections.
Plex really needs to put some time into cleaning up some of this kind of core functionality. The music features, in particular, seem kind of half-baked.
Not possible to use plex here if the update of tags does not work. Please fix.
Today I started to use Plex ( great software by the way ), but unfortunately immediately ran into the same issue. Updated tags with MP3TagEditor, did a new scan but no success. The way I worked around is was to delete the library and create it again.
Also came here trying to fix this problem. Amazing software but horribly annoying bug.
Hey Plex Ninjas let the developers know this crap needs to be fixed
Same issue here, Plex pls fix!
Yeah this really needs to be adressed. It should be a basic feature.
Same problem here…
+1 for needing an integrated means to check for and update on tag changes
My god how is this still an issue? Devs seem to really have misplaced their concentration of resources re: stuff like this. We’ve got core functionality problems for a large number of users and they are developing functionality that nobody really needs (and many of us will never ever use).
I guess music listeners are not their core userbase, it seems most people use Plex more for the movie and TV functionality, whereas for me it is like 95% for music. No real progress in making in music playlists any easier to manage or share either, combined with lingering issues like this lead me to believe they just don’t care about users like us. These don’t really seem like the most technically challenging issues if they cared about resolving them.
I have the same problem. My current workflow: delete libraries -> create new ones. very slow with large libs, but it works at the moment…
System: Windows PMS
Perform the Plex Dance after changing embedded meta tags or renaming files and folders.
Of course only with the edited albums.
There is no need to blow away the whole library.
Sadly I’ve had to give up on using Plex with my music library as a result of this particular issue.
Keeping track of which albums’ tags I may have edited and then manually reintroducing those particular albums is out of the question with a larger library. Regularly dumping the whole library and recreating it isn’t an attractive alternative.
With the new interface Plex no longer allows us to shuffle music files by folders. We tried to retag the genre but Plex would not pick up the change.
We had to rename the folder, rescan the files, then rename it back and rescan the music files again. The problem is I had to manually add back all of the album covers.
Plex Team, please fix both of these problems:
- Not picking up the tags on music files that have been retagged
- No longer able to shuffle music files by folder
This should be a basic function when using the ‘Use embedded tags’.
Having a large library that’s been pieced together over many years it’s not uncommon to come across a problem like missing disc numbers or slightly different artist formatting causing a duplication. Things like this should easily fixable with a quick update of the tags (using an external program of course) and manual sync at library / artist / album level.
Ok…I get it, Plex folks…very meta of you…
No matter how many replies we post, the tag refresh issue is not solved…
So…if we delete this thread and then recreate it will you then fix the issue?
4 years later, still no fix. wow.
Not surprising. Plex devs clearly only work on what they want to & don’t care one bit about what customers are asking for. Comb through the forums - you’ll find LOADS of things like this. If there were an alternative that worked nearly as well as Plex does I would be using that. Unfortunately, everything else I’ve tried is even worse.
Really don’t understand why this is an issue with Plex. I would expect this as a basic feature, especially with a plex pass. They also didn’t make it easier to create playlists now viewing the music folders in Plex is gone, why is that?
