Plex Music Track Numbers out of Order

Hi,

I’ve recently purchased plex pass for life, in hopes of it being my one-stop shop for all of my media. Movies and TV work flawlessly, but Music seems to be giving me a little trouble. Most albums work fine, I’ve gone and applied all settings to prefer local metadata before Plex’s fetched metadata, but a few albums have their tracks numbered correctly, but don’t display the tracks in order (i.e, 1, 2, 3, etc.) I’ll show an example here.

As far as I can tell there’s no way to fix this, I’ve tried to re-analyze, re-fetch metadata, re-scan, etc. I just wish there were an option to sort my tracks ascending/descending but there’s not even that. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Verify the ‘disc’ number on those tracks. Do all tracks have a disc number set at all?

Are all of those tracks actually in the same folder? Are their embedded meta tags complete?

All tracks are in the same folder and the disc number is left blank for all tracks. The vast majority of my albums have blank disc numbers and there is no problem, any idea why not having a disc number set would cause it to organize itself out of order like that?

Here’s an example from the exact same artist with the exact same tagging scheme (no disc number):

I’d need to see all the meta tags of all the tracks in that one affected album. Can you show them to me?
(I recommend using a dedicated metadata editor, like e.g. mp3tag )

Here:

May I see the full path leading to the files? It appears you are missing the needed folder structure

I have a drive that is dedicated to music files, each album is in a folder inside that drive, with their respective title and artist name etc. Can’t imagine why that would be an issue.

It can and often it is.

You need

Music / <-- Plex library is pointing here
   Album Artist /
      Album Title /
         1. Artist - Track.flac
         2. Artist - Track.flac
         3. Artist - Track.flac
         ...

I’ve added a Music folder like you’ve said, and while the tracks are now in order, track 4 is now missing from the album and is seen as its own album under the same name and album art. Plus a bunch of my other artists have changed. I realize that I don’t have the disc number set and that is probably the issue but why wouldn’t the software just assume that if there is no disc number set for any given album that it is one disc?

I’m only reluctant to change up all of my music tags because
1: I have quite a bit of music and it would be time consuming to say the least.
2: I would then be unable to seed the music files from the site I obtained them from (after I purchased the album legally of course).

If it must be done then I guess I’ve got a bit of time on my hands during quarantine but I’d much rather not. I’m assuming you’re just a forum moderator and don’t really have any control over the software but surely it’s not too difficult to make the disc number assumption for scanned media? Or am I missing something here?

Did you also separate the Artist name and the Album title into separate folder levels?
E:\Music\Floating Points\Crush\...

Why would that even matter? I really don’t get it. Plex should be able to just look at the metadata inside a folder and extract the artist/album information and group the tracks together. I realize you probably have no authority over that kind of stuff and if that’s your only suggestion than I’ll probably just find some other music player.
