Thanks for the comment. Can't wait to give Nine a testflight.
Whoa, I can't believe it, my previous comments about self control and refraining from checking are not working.
That was the 11th May in relation to the 18th April post (that got us all excited) , its now 3rd June and still no alpha, staying away is not helping, its still seems like several weeks have past since it was imminent......oh wait..... ;-)
Yeah. well, since I'm in some sort of "bad standing" with the senior members of this forum, I risk nothing from being a bit more blunt: These constant delays, broken promises, and (first and foremost) continued lack of communication has delegated Plex 9 to vaporware status in my view...!
How can you call it vapourware when you've seen the video? Ah, it's all done with CGI isn't it :)
I'm sure the guys are working flat out, and it will be all the better for the extra time put in when the first public release hits.
M.
what broken promises would that be? it looks like some sense of entitlement you claim to have?
and that "bad standing" thing: I think the majority of these senior members are adults and have the mental capacity of judging incidents as incidents and not continue to hold it against someone (note: I don't know what these incidents were and I don't really care either). so I doubt you're on an invisble bad standing list.
Like I wrote: This is in my view - and mainly based upon the lack of communication, which in itself is a broken promise…
I realize that there are no such thing as “promises” regarding software development done for free by entusiasts - so please don’t take my comments personally…
you realize it, yet you hold it against them.
LOL
Yeah, why is that a problem?
The "promises" were made, and so I'm merely pointing out that they were also broken - which is a sure way to alienate users, except (apparently) the most servile ones...
Anyway, I'll walk away from this "fight" - it is not really worth it and, I guess, rather counter-productive...
I really hope that those that are so desperate for this new release and actually complaining about it remember to use the donate button once it is released. Don’t get me wrong I was hoping it would be out by now as there has been so much talk about it for the last 6 months, but I’m sure it will be worth the wait. 0.85 is working just fine for me right now, the only thing that is occasionally a problem is when thetvdb.com goes down and I have to rename files slightly so that they get scraped into the library when the site is back up.
Elan has only just started to give estimated alpha release dates in the last 6 weeks and the most recent update was more committed, stating in the next month, so please be patient and stop bitching!
How is it relevant to this topic ? Most of the new posts (including mine) have nothing to do with the new db.
You take things way too seriously. Just because you email someone directly, ask for something specifically and you end up getting some personal attention as a result, doesn't make your request any more important than what's already in the pipeline. Your request will be handled, when it can be handled. Any promises you believe you were told was an attempt to be polite and nice to someone who was obviously an avid Plex user. It would best now if you give this a rest and go watch a movie or something.
Double post, sorry!
My comments were not at all related to the promise that were made to me personally - I prefer to discuss that using PMs. Still that particular "promise" was made in this very thread and not in the PM system.
But again, because these "promises" are not promises per se, I fully accept that they cannot be fulfilled.
What I have been having issues with is the lack of communication...
I will give it (another) rest, no problem. And actually, I really don't take this that seriously. Likewise, I really hope that you devs don't take this minor ordeal personally... :)
ok dude, you need to seriously stop talking about promises. you were not made any promises ever. period. this is free software, it comes with no promises or warranties whatsoever, take it or leave it exactly as it is, dont ■■■■■ and complain about “broken promises” when it doesn’t meet your expectations.
Software is hard and Hofstadter’s Law applies: “It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter’s law.” That combined with the fact that plex is developed by a very small group in their spare time, is exactly the reason that they have always been so careful to not predict specific timelines or release dates, because even in a perfect world, they would be broken every single time. no hard deadline was ever given to you, so stop talking about it like you were ever told anything but a vague optimistic guess. And it’s not like they are just sitting around doing nothing, holding back a finished product to screw with you, they are working as hard and as fast as they can, the sooner they make the first public release, the more bugs and broken/missing features you will have to complain about.
Actually, I promised him a build to test when fanart files that sat alongside the media got scanned in. I never promised a timeframe for it, mind you, and that feature still hasn't been added :)
Let's all just take a deep breath and stay on topic.
Have you even read a single word of my posts? Or do you just keep reciting the same absurd servile remarks?
I was not (seriously) complaning about Plex 9 not being released yet - I was complaining that the communication is still lacking, adding to the increasing unrest because people's expectations are not met...
EDIT: Long quote deleted. Please stay on topic. -editor
Thanks.
I never complained about any time frame not being fulfilled (I was asking, yes, in the PMs, if it was ready)...
(BTW, my request about local fanart dates back to the Plex 7 series when that particular feature was (strangely) removed).
I think it is best if I leave these boards - how do I delete my profile?
It was removed for a good reason. Back then, the code which implemented that feature was atrociously written and caused huge slowdowns when entering large directories.
You're a bit of a drama queen aren't you?
To get back on topic, I have a question: will there be any new type of trailer support in Plex 9? I would love a way for online trailers, perhaps from hdtrailers, Apple trailer, or hell even YouTube (if they are HD)to be scrapped automatically by the new media manager. I have trailer support checked in the 8.5 release, but none of my movies have scraped any trailers... I'm thinking that since the new media manager will be a bit more intuitive, we may have hope for more options, or at least a new option :)
