Plex/Nine Database

i’m here to help on the betatest too

Nobody needs to ask about helping to beta test  As soon as it’s ready for beta testing, we’ll release it for everyone to try out. Thanks for all the offers though!

Oooh man, can’t wait!

Can’t wait either!

Is there a possibility that there will be a new, plex exlusive, skin with the release of Plex 0.9?

Not in the first release, but in the Plex/Nine series you might see some skin love ;)

i think a better question is will skin developers easily be able to take advantage of the new features in plex9 series and update their ported skins?

We're working closely with them :)

Can you give us a releasedate of Plex 0.9 ? :D

Please read the thread!!! You'll find your answer there.

Ok! So no releasedate yet!

But like everybody else: I can't wait!!!

Could we get more teasing ? What about a feature/day ? The wait is killing me

I’m sorry this is taking so much time, the library replacement is a major undertaking. We will begin to tease in a series of blog articles which describe the library in great detail, hopefully before too long. Right now I’m coding my eyeballs out and it’s raining like crazy outside. I feel like I’m living in Portland, which is where we almost moved.

Good to hear something is coming. I was starting to lose faith. Im hoping for screenshots with those blogs.

Thanks Elan, and congratulations to your wife for her work as a photographer. I saw some pretty good ones on her website. But what is the olive oil opacity test ?

cheers

Fred

Don't be sorry, I rather wait for quality..

I hope something comes out soon… People are losing faith in Plex… and I’m ALMOST in the same boat… with the issues that plague plex 0.8 when compared to xbmc (which is like wrapping silk around you)…

please do churn it out asap… that’ll be much appreciated. Hopefully the problem with extremely slow scrapping is eliminated in the new version.

Really? Losing faith because of slow scraping? how many items are you adding to the library a day? If so many people are losing faith in Plex, why do the boards continue to be so active? what are the issues that 'plague' 0.8 vs XBMC. I can tell you this:

1. XBMC doesn't play nearly as nice across Macs as Plex does (i still can't get XBMC to see my iTunes files which are located on an external HDD attached to a remote Mac, Plex require zero setup for this).
2. XBMC won't display my photos both for reason 1. and because its the iPhoto library
3. XBMC doesn't have the architecture to enable things like PlexFlix or Indigo for Plex

Yes,
1. XBMC does a 'better' job from what i understand of taking advantage of graphics hardware
2. XBMC does a slightly better job in showing blu-ray rips (although its very minor to me, and I have a 60" Kuro) - and one very odd thing happening to my District 9 rip.
3. XBMC has more skins

I just think to make a broad statement like "People are losing faith in Plex", is silly. Each person on these forums should only speak for themselves.

Hey Fred, thanks for the kind words. That's just an expression Anna coined in jest, I was looking for the most unfiltered olive oil I could find, hence why I was holding it up to the light. If you're into olive oil, the most delicious (and reasonably priced) oil I've been able to find is [this one](http://tr.im/Qhbd).

As the above poster I would hardly say that people are losing faith, or indeed claim to speak for everyone by doing so. I personally am not losing faith, although I am impatient to see the new library system in action. I've always thought one of the most annoying things about XBMC was it's very limiting library system. Currently I prefer Plex to XMBC for it's tighter integration with OS X, but I wouldn't say there is a huge difference between the two. A much improved library system would really set Plex apart from XBMC, and make it more than just a fork of XBMC (which, rightly or wrongly, is how I view it now).

I'm impatient to get to try out the new version, but am willing to wait as the devs seem to be making all the right noises about wanting to make the ultimate library system. The one worry I have is that this was first mentioned back in late 2008, and I just hope the delay is not due to them continually raising the bar for the standard the library has to live up to, as that kind of striving for perfection can go on forever. That said even as is I prefer Plex to XBMC and the hideous Boxee.

I just want to take a second and set expectations for the first release of Plex/Nine, when it happens: The “odd” series are the development/unstable series, so expect lots of issues. We’ve taken on the order of tens of thousands of lines of code out and rewritten them from scratch, so there is a lot of churn. Some things that used to work won’t work, some things will work worse. But lots of things will be possible that were never possible before, many annoyances will be gone forever, and this is a strong foundation for the future of Plex.

As soon as I have some time, I will write up more details on the blog. For now, though, I’m back to keyboard to write more code.
