Plex no longer importing music

I have some lossless m4as, from ripping CDs. Recently, Plex has stopped importing music when doing Scan Library Files. The logs from the scanner are below.

To test whether or not the problem is the ripper (iTunes), I took an album from my library ripped in 2016, and removed it from the library. Then, I tried to add it back to the library, and Plex gave the same error. Therefore, Plex is now rejecting music that it was previously accepting.

I’m having the same issue with mine.
Does anyone know the solution to this?

Could you please provide the full logs. Settings -> Troubleshooting -> Download Logs.

Hi, same problem here. Plex suddenly stopped scanning all my music files except mp3 format. Also eliminated everything but mp3 from my library (ie no longer includes about 17000 flac files). This all happened over the last couple or three weeks.

Have tried setting up a new music library, but Plex only “sees” my few mp3s.

All playlists now only include the mp3 files still in the library, which is frustrating as it took me days and days and days to set those playlists up.

On reflection, this would all seem to have happened after the last server update.

The latest update (1.18.1.1973) has addressed this issue for me. Thanks.

Things are still really weird for me, unfortunately. Flac files reappeared, but listed as 16000 files under a single artist (the Ronettes, oddly enough. Strangely, they had the correct song titles. Now they have all disappeared again.

Just tried to scan again as a new music library and it doesn’t pick up any of the flac files, but finds the mp3s. However, all 183 mp3s appear as if on a single album by various artists.

Is no one else having issues? Plex is unusable as a music server for me at present.

I have been isolate a problem related to Music scanning… sounds similar to what you’re experiencing here and has occurred since the Plex update of about a month ago.

When my music is scanned, the Plex Scanning process never seems to complete. When I check CPU time on the machine that is running my Plex Server, one processor is continually using 25% of the CPU… forever. In order to recover I have to forcefully terminate the Plex Media server (Exiting on the System Tray never terminates it) and restart it. I worry if I’m damaging the Plex Database each time I do this.

When I move all of my music files out of the folder where they’re stored, scanning does complete and of course everything is marked with the trashcan icons. When I have put back files so far, I still experience the problem… next up for me is to add one directory at a time to see if I can isolate what particular content the Plex Scanner is getting hung up on.

One weird thing I can’t explain though… the scanning icon on the window shows a complete status “circle” and the last message displayed show “Scanning Music: iTunes” which I don’t understand because, even though I have an iTunes folder sometimes in my tree, it displays this even when I don’t have that folder in there.

Now to try one song folder at a time until I isolate what it is…

The problem appears when processing the “Compilations” directory under my iTunes folder… I saw something about compilations in another thread somewhere… is there a problem with the scanner handling these now???

My music library is a complete disaster and, when I try to create a new one, I just get the same mess. I don’t have my music in artist and album folders, just rely on metadata to sort files on my PC. This worked fine with Plex until the recent update. Can it be fixed? I’m reluctant to start over again with a whole new install or a different media server if a fix is on the way.

UPDATE - I see that keeping music in artist and album folders now seems to be required with the new update. Not sure why, Plex worked great with the exact same library a month ago, now it is completely unusable.

I can’t re-do my entire folder structure because I have 18000 music files and would lose years and years of carefully compiled playlists if I change the locations for all of my files. .

If anyone is reading this that has any connection with Plex, please advise if there are any plans to remedy this, as I only subscribe because of the music features, and at present I can’t use them.

I was not aware of the requirement to rename and reorganize music folders that is required now. Why would someone make this assumption? I keep my music organized by the sources I obtained my music - e.g. iTunes, Amazon MP3, Physical Disk - and some of it is organized by artist/album, but not entirely.

This is a totally unacceptable requirement of end-users with large music collections. I’ve asked this before, but a month ago Plex worked fine for me and I would like to downgrade. Is there no way to obtain older versions???
