I’ve disabled secure connections and it still won’t help. Linuxdave said that he has advised his user to use another app, but I’m not sure if he works for Plex. It has really messed up my viewing habits.
He does not work for Plex…
He is Plex Pass owner like me.
Just means we use more of Plex features and usually own a real server for hosting and probably have a number of users using it.
Did you try to also disable secure connections at the TV as well as the server?
I also noticed I needed to restart the server and the TV after changing secure connections for it to take effect.
Ok well that makes sense now.
I’ve changed secure connections on both the server and app. From memory when I did that on the server my app would no longer connect to the server. I tried restarting the app/tv between changes.
Exactly the same issue here too. 2017 Samsung TV with the app wont work when trying to play remotely (over the internet to the Plex server).
Direct play locally on the same network (also on a 2017 Samsung TV with the Plex app) is working perfectly fine.
I have set the app on the remote TV to be able to use insecure connections, and its still not working.
I hope Plex can sort this without me having to buy a firestick for remote playback…
Are all other remote players working for your Plex server?
All remote streams work just fine for me, but I only
have a Samsung TV with the app locally.
All the remote streams use a different player device, such as xboxs, Sony TVs, Roku TV’s, etc.
I only have 1 Samsung TV: Model 49MU7000 which is local, I have no issues with it at all if I disable secure connections locally, it will transcode DTS and TrueHD codecs again.
Usually I’d expect more feedback from Plex for such a large issue going on for so long.
But by the same token some people aren’t being particularly hopeful either with the original reports of issues.
Such as; which CODECs you are trying to Transcode when the issue happens?
Is your server even supposed to Transcode, or do your client’s support the codecs natively and can provide the content by direct streaming…etc. Do you have the Transcoder disabled or enabled for the server, etc.
I wish Plex AND everyone would please provide some useful information and troubleshooting; for users it would be nice instead of saying “Not working” in the other thread… But it’s where we are at now and we basically just wait for a solution. As for Plex, idk why they haven’t given an official stance on this in a number of months.
Yeah everything else works. This includes my phone, google tv and web server. It’s only the Samsung TV that won’t work. Also everything is connected remotely, my server is not at home.
I do remember reading what I thought was an official statement, saying something about something not being signed any more and it affects certain tv’s with particular software. I think to fix it would require Plex to do the signing on their side which might be too expensive.
Do you have a link to said official statement? Would be handy to have…
i have the same problem on my Samsung Tv.
Tell me what you think about this.
It says it was an email sent based on the app used… I guess I was missed on this, thank you.
Yeah well doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.
I think I’ll have to buy a google tv for my living room tv
Already shopping for an Android TV, I bought this TV out of pocket as a gift to myself 2 years ago from the local BestBuy store.
The support cycles clearly aren’t there with Samsung; so not going that route again.
I fully agree; completely disappointing.
But at least the official memo gives me a stance; which is it’s a Samsung Problem and it’s probably not getting fixed unless Samsung overturns their last decision relating to these models.
I don’t get this. I’ve got a Frame 2020 tv. All worked fine, I go on holiday for 2 weeks and it has stopped working. Apparently this update happened in September, why would it stop it working now? And the secure connections fix just hasn’t worked.
Maybe your tv updated while you were away and the tv was inactive. Sometimes they don’t update themselves as soon as app updates are available.
mine is the exact same, it was all working last week now this week nothing!! so frustrating
@ jacobleonidou I just bought a New Samsung TV Yesterday and my Dad has been have this issue for months.
I just fixed mine on the TV by going to Settings > Video > Local/Remote Quality and changing them both over to 20 Mbps 4k.
For what ever reason, Video’s that were getting playback errors are now working for me.
I was really hopeful that those changes would work for me but they didn’t.
Please try rolling PMS back to 1.24.x and see if that resolves the issues. It’ll help us narrow down what the issue can be and if it was caused by a PMS update.
How do we roll back Plex? Edit: rolled back to 1.25.5.5492 and everything is working again
I’m fairly certain my version of the problem only started after updating PMS this week. Episodes I could watch on Monday now return “Multimedia file format not supported” on my Samung TV.
I’ve tried elleafy’s solution but the only items on PMS in the drop down menu for “Secure Connections” are “Preferred” & “Required”.
RavageWombat’s solution of changing the quality from Original works but only if I downgrade to 4mbps 720p or lower, not ideal.
For clarification, it’s only happening with anime. Any western TV shows still work fine.
