Allowing insecure connections worked for me too.
It is not a good workaround.
Why does it no longer work with secure connections?
I have not configured my Plex with any certificates, but I did set Secure Connections to Required.
In order for the workaround to work, I had to set it to Preferred.
What happened?
How do I get secure connections back?
Is there is any risk of Allowing insecure connections on the TV ?
my TV is Samsung Model 2019
and i get this Playback error Multimedia file Not supported
Same issue with my Samsung Q90R. 570 stuff seems to play fine. 1080 and it is hit and miss but mostly i get the dreaded Playback error an unexpected playback problem has occurred. .
i thought it was synology NAS sever issue and reinstalled the whole sever and same issue.
This effectively means you would have to buy a new TV every 5 years or so.
These devices are no longer supported by their manufacturers, and wonât be receiving an update needed to continue making secure connections to a personal server.
What update does these TVs need?
Is there any way to fix this ourself. I can see Plex Server has configuration for Certificates setup. Could this be the solution, if I acquired a certificate for my Plex Server?
Using Insecure connection does not really solve the problem. I do not like streaming my plex content insecure over the Internet.
disabling secure connections on same network on the TV app itself resolves the problem. set server to secure connections preferred.
My remote access has however gone down as well. I expect this is all related to the expiry of the Lets encrypt certificates. not letting insecure connections outside my LAN thats for sure
Only had my TV for a year which seems pretty darn rubbish that is how long we can expect plex to work for.
This effectively means you donât rely on the smarts of your tv to drive your streaming experience. Ever. Get with it, and buy an external device that is far cheaper to replace, while your display works just fine.
Your display still works. Manufacturers obsolete their devices in short time, and when they do, thatâs it. No support, no updates. In this case, said devices wonât receive an update that fixes the root certificate authority expiration that was hard coded into their device. No, you canât fix that yourself.
My Plex Server has its own IP address, while my TV and computers are on a different network.
Therefor allowing insecure on same network does not work in my case.
What has Plex changed in its App, so that it no longer work on Samsung Tizen?
The announcement it saying something about a cert change.
Is it possible to fix this by getting a new certificate and configuring my Plex Server to use that certificate? The Plex Server has certificate settings in the Network section.
Iâve come to the conclusion that using a smart tv alone is always going to have negatives, and the addition of a streaming box (Apple TV, nvidia shield, fire stick, etc) is preferable.
AFAIK a whole bunch of free ssl certificates expired within the last few days and I guess all these products and websites out there were using them, without an apparent plan to renew them, so itâs been creating a lot of havoc in a lot of places. I think this is Samsungâs fault. But then Iâve also heard it blamed on a recent server update by Plex so ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ
I can get the versions and logs upon request but for now:
I saw the announcement which i presumably a result of the spate of certificate errors the internet is suffering from:
Anyway, the server and TV were already set to that, but we still get the error. This just started within the last two weeks. Plus, this is a UN65RU7300FXZA, which I think is less than two years old, so not an âolderâ Samsung.
Anyone know what to do? Or is there a fix coming put? Everything seems fully updated. I did put in a new router, an Eero Pro 6, do I need to open any ports? The server is remote, outside the local network of the TV.
