Plex not automatically launching on after rebooting QNAP

@whocho

Please let me know if the new NVIDIA_GPU_DRV timing works?

https://support.plex.tv/articles/115002178853-using-hardware-accelerated-streaming/

i don’t have an nvidia graphics card in the nas. assuming i would need that to test the NVIDIA_GPU_DRV timing?

:frowning:

sorry to rain on the parade, but even with fresh v1.40.5.8921 PMS still won’t launch after a powercut to the QNAP NAS. it starts fine after a normal reboot. after a powercut there is no sign of the system trying to launch PMS inside ā€˜PlexMedia Server.log’ and running ā€œplex.sh startā€ manually works fine, resulting in:

Plex Media Server is recovering from previous crash. Please standby.
Starting Plex Media Server…

i am giving up, will just upgrade the UPS.

Is this fixed in 1.41.2.9200?

I’m on 1.41.3, and this is still an issue for me…
My QNAP is firmware version 5.2.2.2950, if that is affecting anything.

I am on 1.41.3.9314 and I am still getting the issue where plex does not start after my QNAP nas shutsdown uncleanly.

Is anyone else still having the issue?

Is anyone else still having the issue?

yes, it is not fixed.

Repair or restore the databases from a previous backup.

After an abrupt / unclean shutdown, the DB will need repair.

If not already enabled, temporarily enable the admin user to run this:

After an ā€˜auto’ repair sequence, if it still doesn’t autostart , Please grab and attach a ZIP file of the Logs directory under Plex Media Server

From that, we’ll know if you need to roll the DB back to one of the backups (which the tool will also do for you)

if a corrupt DB was the issue, why would manually launching it work just fine?

Yeah that’s what I thought.
I’ve been having this problem for years.
My Plex server was recently updated - same issue when my power goes out.

I have not tried doing the manual method.

The people replying in this thread talking about a corrupt database are just confused.

if the NAS/Qnap is shutdown uncleanly, Plex will always need a manual startup (or restart) - no problems starting it manually.

according to other responses, this is due to a glitch? It’s been like this for years even on mulitple Qnap devices.

Hello,
after upgrading to latest PMS v.1.41.5.9522-a96edc606, every time I reboot my QNAP (correctly because reboot is scheduled every night) with firmware version 5.2.4 build 20250321, Plex not automatically start. To solve I need to logging into the NAS as an Admin and restarting the app.
I didn’t have this problem with the previous release, and my db is fully ok, I made a repair with your ChuckPA repair tool.
Please help me or tell me how to open a ticket to official support (I have a full Plex Media Pass lifetime).
Thank you.

Do you have a PlexData shared folder ?

If you don’t,

  1. Create the shared folder, named exactly PlexData.
  2. Restart PMS
  3. Let it run 60 seconds
  4. Download the logs ZIP file

Next time it does not start, use PlexData in FileStation

PlexData → Plex Media Server → Right-click ā€œLogsā€ → Compress (zip file)
Download the ZIP and attach here.

QTS should be restarting PMS by itself.

You might need to reinstall (on top of – don’t uninstall the existing) to get QTS to update itself.

Hello,
thank you very much for your reply.
I alredy have a Logs folder in this path:

/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Logs

Is that enough or do I have to create anyway the shared folder PlexData?

Best regards.

If you can make a tar.gz of the Logs drectory and attach it here, great!

I was offering the PlexData shared folder so you had a GUI access method

Hello,
I apologize for the delay in my reply, but after reading your Qnap FAQ, I found a lot of bad configurations in my installation. So I made the decision to reinstall all from scratch.
I completely removed the package and the directory:

/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/

then I made a new fresh installation from latest stable release and I solved all my problem.
Now my QNAP correctly start Plex at every scheduled reboot.

Thank you very much for the support.
Best regards.

Not a coder by any means so I’m trying to decipher everything being discussed here.

Has this problem been resolved and if so, I need a grade 5 level way to fix it because it’s a huge pain when I’m getting power flips here…always happens to be when I’m away from home.

Has this problem been resolved

no

Do you have a UPS connected to the NAS ?
That will prevent sudden reboots / failures from short power interruptions / fluctuations.

It’ll also prevent things from getting corrupted by the interruptions (no interruptions at all). The UPS will tell the host when battery is low so the host can do an orderly shutdown.

No I don’t have a UPS set up, but going to do it soon.

I guess there really is no fix then huh?
