Plex not being able to identify TV show - two airing same night.

Hi, I use a DVR other than Plex currently which records to a folder monitored by Plex. I have one TV show that has on occasion two episodes a night. The naming convention used by my DVR is “Coronation Street 2017-06-12-2030.mpg” and “Coronation Street 2017-06-12-2030.mpg”

Plex treats this as two versions of the same episode. Always. Is there any setup that would make plex not try and identify the episodes and just list the files in the folder? I would like to avoid having to rename the files manually.

Sadly, No. PMS does not yet have the ability to include time in date-based programming and keep it separate as such.

There have been multiple requests before LiveTV as well as throughout DVR development none of which has been implemented

Thanks for this! Unfortunately the EPG is not 100% here with Plex DVR as yet, so using an alternative. Ah well!

Today’s Beta Release 1.11.3.4793 has changes to address multiple episodes on the same day and will hopefully resolve most of the cases. (I say this reservedly because the information available for multiple episodes may not actually have identifiable differences.)

  • (DVR) Episodes of the same show that air on the same day now record correctly (#6668)

A further change has been released today in version 1.12.2.4929 beta

  • (DVR) More fixes around recording multiple airings of a show on the same day (#6668)

This fixes the problem where only one episode was recorded.

There remains an issue with episode identification in the library and that is because of the lack of the detail in the Gracenote data. The airing time is used in this fix to label the episodes differently.

Thanks to @“Kings Media” for the additional user testing for this fix
