Bored !!
Bumping again… 4 months since @drzoidberg33 responded… Class!!
Still a problem as of PMS v1.26.0.5715…
Have you guys spoken to each other? It feels like it could be an adjacent issue. Not the same but something to do with jobs getting triggered and scheduled.
Hey. I am getting caught up on this issue and was looking at the original bug you linked in first post which seemed to be about an issue with it not creating the thumbs for extras, not the chapters thumbs in those extras. That issue seemed to be linked to if there was a parenthesis in the movie folder name like “Movie (2004)/Extras/someextra.mkv”.
Just want to check if it is the same issue and if you make a test folder without parenthesis it it works or if a different cause.
Hi @BigWheel … Firstly, I REALLY appreciate you looking into this for me, as it’s been dragging for some time now…

I never use quotes or parenthesis in any of my directory structure.
This is a typical movie along with its extras…
I can see parentheses in the folder path in there. Two pairs in fact.
Movies (adullt)\Wrong Turn\(2003) Wrong Turn
not sure if there is other stuff in Wrong Turn folder but you should not need two folders with the movie name
can you remove the one that is (2003) Wrong turn
and to be clear I do think is it a bug if the parenthesis is causing issue I just want to confirm if that is the issue
Oh brackets ??? () Thought you were talking about quotes “” …
Yes, OK, I do use those and have done ever since I have been using Plex.
So presumably then, one of the devs changed something a while ago and now Plex no longer likes brackets?
If that’s the case, then hoping that change could be reversed, as my primary folder structure looks like this…

I don’t think the primary library folder is the issue but the folder called (2003) Wrong Turn
The reason for the additional DIR is for this kind of purpose…

Unfortunately the timing here is REALLY bad as I need to now get ready to go away for a few days, however I will definitely do a test with a directory structure without brackets on Monday next week and will report back…
Beyond that, thank you both for chiming in on this one

Just had an opportunity to add a new movie with an extra, ensuring that there are no brackets () in the name of the movie folder itself, and the same problem occurs.
D:\Plex\Movies (Adult)\After Yang\After.Yang.2021.1080p.AAC_5.1.BluRay.x264.mkv
D:\Plex\Movies (Adult)\After Yang\Deleted Scenes\Deleted Scenes.mkv
Perhaps it is the brackets of the primary library folder after all?
I added the movie, then manually ran a deep analysis and chapter generation using these commands…
Plex Media Scanner.exe --analyze-deeply --item %RatingKeys% --log-file-suffix " Manual Deep Analysis"
Plex Media Scanner.exe --generate --chapter-thumbs-only --item %RatingKeys% --log-file-suffix " Manual Chapter Thumbnails" --force
I know these commands work as I use them every time I add new content, however as reported, nothing I do seems to generate the Chapter thumbnails for the extras.
XML:
Logs generated when movie added:
Plex Media Scanner Analysis.1.log (6.1 KB)
Plex Media Scanner Analysis.log (8.4 KB)
Plex Media Scanner Matcher.1.log (1.5 KB)
Plex Media Scanner Matcher.log (1.4 KB)
Logs generated after deep analysis and chapter generation:
Plex Media Scanner Manual Chapter Thumbnails.log (860 Bytes)
Plex Media Scanner Manual Deep Analysis.log (12.2 KB)
Let me know if there’s anything else you need.
Thanks…
I was curious and so I decided to create a test library without brackets in the name, and the same problem occurs, so it has nothing to do with brackets…
Thanks for testing it out and thanks for the logs
Hi BigWheel… Any progress on this yet?
Sorry don’t have news. I have not been able to repro myself but still trying. I need to make my a test library just like your folder organization I think.
OK. Thanks for the reply, and do let me know if there is anything you need from me that may help ![]()
@BigWheel - An update for you…
I have 3x PMS servers on 3 different computers, all with different folder structures and all currently on PMS v1.27.2.5929.
My main server is an HP ProLiant Server running Windows Server 2012 R2
My laptop is a Dell 11th Gen Core i7 running Windows 10 version 21H2
My test server, which is also constantly converting my content to x265, and a 7th Gen Core i7 HP PC, also running Windows 10 version 21H2
The results are the same on all 3 machines… Logs attached…
Plex Media Scanner Manual Chapter Thumbnails - LAPTOP.log (763 Bytes)
Plex Media Scanner Manual Chapter Thumbnails - PLEXSVR.log (762 Bytes)
Plex Media Scanner Manual Chapter Thumbnails - TESTSVR.log (759 Bytes)
So to be honest, I’m a little confused as to how you are having problems reproducing this problem, as I have just recreated it on an additional 2 machines within around 15 minutes.
Do please let me know if there is anything else you need from me.
Thanks.
Any news yet ?
