Plex Not Creating Thumbnails for Extras

Hello all

My Plex is no longer creating thumbnails for Extras, and the issue persists following a server reboot.
I have fixed this before by completely taking the extras files off of the Plex drive, refreshing the library, and then adding them back, but even that is not working these days plus seems like a lot of work to have to do each and every time I add extras. It bares mentioning that it is successfully generating thumbnails for FF and RW and I have it set to do that as soon as it finds new content. Previously generated extras thumbnails are still there, but the ones that I added since this problem began are just black squares in every Plex platform even after a reboot, countless library refreshes, overnight maintenance updates, etc.

Any thoughts? I attached my logs. I just added a Scene and Interview extra to the title Pippin (1981), both of which are appearing as black rectangles. Any help would be much much appreciated.

Btw, I see many other people have had this issue, but the only suggestion I ever see in the forums to fix is the aforementioned moving around of files, and all the forum posts I found were so old that it felt appropriate to begin a new topic.

Examining your logs shows many errors.

In this small sample, PMS thinks you have content which you don’t.

This said,

  1. Scan files for all library sections
  2. Empty Trash
  3. Clean bundles (this will likely take time as it cleans up this first time)
  4. In each library, “Refresh All Metadata”

Having the same issue. The general maintenance steps don’t seem to fix the issue.

*note this is with new additions only. Existing extras pre-dating update still have thumbs.

Looks like the server update did not fix this. I haven’t checked with adding a new movie, but it didn’t fix the existing blank extra squares. Really wish they would build a way to fix this or force generation of thumbnails for extras that don’t have them.

Have the same problem. Old extras are still showing the preview correctly. But the new extras are not showing thumbnails. Just an empty / black box.
I have also tried a lot of things (moving files way, clear cache, delete packages, …) but nothing helped.
Using server version 1.15.3.858

Yup, I’m having the same problem, and opened a thread 5 days ago, but so far no one has been able to give me any suggestions…

I’m having this issue as well. Just to clarify, the issue for me is with the thumbnails associated with the “extras” that I have added to a movie. The creation of chapter thumbnails are working properly.

My PMS is a Windows 10 system. I’m running PMS version 1.15.4.993. If I downgrade my system to PMS version 1.15.1.791 the Extras thumbnails work correctly.

Anybody know of a workaround for this issue until the Plex folks get this fixed?

Still broken in versions 1.15.5.993 and 1.15.5.994.

can confirm it’s happening here too, windows 10 running the latest version of pms… pms is also frequently shutting down…

Same issue here. Been present a short while now.

Oddly, its working fine with extras added to my Windows 7 server, but not on my Mac OS Mojave server.
