Since updating PMS, movie extras don't get thumbnails

Server Version#: 1.15.2.793
Mac Pro running Mac OS 10.13.6 High Sierra

Hi,
Since I updated Plex Media Server to the latest version 1.15.2.793, when I add local media assets (movie extras) they don’t get a thumbnail image. They are just gray rectangles. Before I updated, they would automatically get thumbnails generated. Is this a bug? I’ve tried Analyze, I’ve tried Refresh Metadata, and neither fixed it. Thanks

what a clusterf*k … same here and it’s really irritating - CLEARLY never tested.

I just updated and am having the same issue as well.

Gotta love bugs.

EDIT: I’m running my Plex Media Server on desktop running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

I am having the same issue. Thankfully (or not so much… LoL) I am not going crazy. Two rebuilds and still having the issue, but I was using Server 2019 and was going to rebuild back to 2016, until I saw this. Strangly the extras have never worked better. It plays the trailers (all mp4) and my pre-rolls without issue, but sadly the thumbnails for any extras I add are missing. Even more strange is that the extras added by Plex itself do have thumbnails.

Same issue!!! Glad I found other people that have this same problem!

It would be nice if the developers would acknowledge the problem or issue a fix. :pensive:

So I updated to the current release of 1.15.3.835 (did the major thing of uninstall and cleaned out the bundles and such) when it was released and the issue remains that any “Extras” that I have with the Movie files (either folder based or just using the -trailer and such file naming) are generating Thumbs. Looking at the XML files on the ones prior to the upgrade to 1.15.xx there was a path to the Thumb, but after 1.15.xx there is no entry under the extras I added for Thumbs, only for the Extras that the Agents added for Internet based playback. Definitely something is up. If I find some time, I may put a Bug review in, but currently traveling so no real access to the box.

I upgraded to Version 1.15.3.858 thinking this bug has been fixed, but nope, it’s still not creating thumbnails for movie extras. :frowning:

Hi @roofoo_gmail_com

I’m also experiencing this, opened a thread 5 days ago and have also found multiple other threads for the same problem…

Movie Extras no longer getting metadata thumbnails

Hi. I had a message from OttoKerner this morning who has logged this as a bug…

That’s good, still no fix yet. :frowning:

I believe that the latest Beta release has addressed the issue.

Plex Media Server 1.15.4.919

Unfortunately not. It has addressed an issue with chapter thumbnails, but not extras.

Funny that it works for me, this was added 3 days ago.

Same as original poster

iMac running Mojave 10.14.4 with Plex Media Server 1.15.4.919

@SE56 - In that case I’ll have to try it again later and see what happens…

Strange but I am still having the Extras showing as a blank square, if I add them manually, but they still play fine. The extras added by the Agents other than Local Media have pictures though. I have tried a clean removal and install to .919 but still doing this. I suppose I could try a new DB, but my library has a lot of customization, so I would not leave it that way.

I had to downgrade to version 1.14.1.5488 so that my local Extras can generate a thumbnail. I make my own short films and such. I share them to friends and family and the extras i add are crucial so that they can continue to support us. I wont be upgrading the server until its been fixed. Not sure if the latest 1.15.4.993 has fixed it yet tho.

Still not working for me in Version 1.15.4.994

This has now been fixed

Finally thanks!
