Not really sure what else to say, I have multiple Movies and TV Shows that have chapters included in the file, when playing them via VLC or looking at the files via MediaInfo the chapters are there but Plex doesn’t pick up the chapters.
It’s especially frustrating because I could add 3 files and it picks up chapters on one of them but not the others so it doesn’t seem like a setting that is turned off.
Verify that you don’t have several sets of chapter markers in there. Plex can only read the first, AFAIK.
Drag them into MKVtoolnixGUI chapter editor to see how many sets are in there (and maybe if they have different languages assigned).
I checked a handful of videos to see if there were any differences between those that work and those that dont and they all have a single edition entry, and each chapter only has 1 name/language. The Default flag is set for some but not all (mixed between ones that work and don’t) and the all the chapters have the enabled flag set and the hidden flag isn’t set on anything.
Did you add those chapter markers only after the files have been scanned for the first time by Plex?
In this case you’d need to trigger Analyze, followed by Refresh Metadata on the item.
If the item is a local extra, you’d even have to perform a Plex dance light with it.
Nope, everything had chapter markers in there before I added them to the folder, some were completely brand new items, others were better quality versions of existing items, but in every case the video files were completed before being added to the folder plex looks at. And in both cases (new and updated media) there were some that worked and some that didn’t.
I’ve also tried reanalyzing the files via the GUI and the CLI to see if that might give it a kick
I’d recently had some issues with my movies library not working on iOS/tvOS and ended up creating a new movie library pointed at the same files and have been slowly migrating some of the custom metadata I had set to the new library. I’d finished a few weeks ago but hadn’t deleted the old one yet in case I had missed something but I finally did that and now chapters seem to be working properly again after an analyze/refresh. Not sure exactly why it worked but it seems to have fixed the problem.
