Plex not downloading metadata for movies

Hi,
Running Media Server Version 1.10.0.4523 on W10, the server does not download metadata for Movies anymore.

Trying to manually fix match, Plex finds the movies I’m looking to match during the search, but subsequently fails in downloading the metadata from the internet.
The servers states it’s downloading the metadata and the cover image flips, but only to reveal the same image as before (screenshot from the movie) and without representing any movie data.

Downloading metadata for TV Series seem to work fine, but not for Movies.

I am running the same version (1.10.0.4523) and am running into the same issue. It sees the movie on a manual search but will not download the metadata at all. Made sure that the agent is on themoviedb but still no dice when it comes to downloading metadata.

I may have just found the answer in another thread on this forum. I disabled IPv6 on my router and so far it seems to be working again. Nice to have plex back.

Just checked my router settings - IPv6 is already disabled from the provider.

Disabling IPv6 on my network card worked.

Thanks for sharing this solution, @dr1ve. I am running PMS on a Windows 10 machine and disabling IPv6 on the LAN connection immediately solved the problem. In fact, Plex was trying to download missing metadata while I changed the IPv6 settings, and within 5 seconds after disabling the setting all of the metadata and artwork appeared. I would have NEVER figured this out on my own. Thank you!

This forum is the best! Disabling IPv6 worked for me as well, with Plex running on Windows Server. This started suddenly after one of the latest updates. Any word on if it is a know issue that will be fixed in an upcoming release?

but the questions is why? Why is Plex caring about using IPv6 instead of letting Layer 3 and 4 decide how to get to an address?

This is like saying hey, let’s block USPS so that FedEx can make a delivery…

The ipv6 issue with images was mainly covered by this forum topic which is pinned on the windows Plex Media Server forum

The issue is only there where there is not full ipv6 support - so could be ISP issue

at first wen i set up the server a few days ago i was receiving metadata but now all the original metadata has dissapeared covers ep info the lot and when i try and find metadata it searches and searches and searches but nothing i have disabled ipv6 through the properies in LAN i think that is correct but still nothing

  • ensure debug logging enabled on the server
  • Restart the server to get fresh logs
  • Create a test library and add media to it (following the naming guidelines - here https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/media-preparation/
  • When it completes to fetch metadata and none found - take screenshot of the library and collect the logs
  • Upload the logs zip and information on what you did and what media failed

Something is not right with your setup. The agent python processes are just not starting as expected and timing out

Do you have vpn / proxy software running ? What security software ?

This seemed to have solved the problem for me. I just unchecked IPv6 here on my windows server 2012 box.

already had IP6 disabled on my card. Still stopped downloading metadata about a week ago

Could it be that the data is being blocked? I had an issue where i had to whitelist the meta data sources. Could be alot of different things sorry I dont check this that often.
