Plex not finding a specific movie

Leap! is only titled as such in the US. All other countries use ‘Ballerina’.
So, which agent is used for your movie library?
And which language is selected for the library?
And which country is selected in the properties of the agent?
And in which order are the secondary agents? Is any agent above ‘Plex Movie’ or ‘TMDB’?

I am noticing a pattern.

Punctuation

Try it without.

Move out,
scan
empty trash
rename,
move back in
allow fresh match

Some characters ARE illegal even though they can be forced into the filesystem

Filebot rips out them out (as one example)

Edit: The reason for this is Punctuation are special characters to the regular expressions (REGEX) which Plex and TMDB use to parse the names with. If they are misinterpreted, chaos ensues

I tried all that back when I first noticed it happening. It has nothing to do with punctuation.
Think about it… It’s making the correct match. Plex media scanner is CHOOSING to use the alternative name.

If it wasn’t making a match then I would suspect the file name.

Then it’s TMDB / whatever movie Agent you have your Library set for. (Edit the section -> Advanced tab -> Look at the agent listed)

Scanner says “Plex Movie Scanner” and Agent says “Plex Movie”

I’ve never touched these settings since I started using Plex two + years ago.

I put it in as ‘Leap! (2016)’
PMS immediately matched and returned as the original name.

I looked at the query result and ‘Ballerina’ is what’s being returned first in the list.
That explains why it’s being matched as it is.
