Plex not importing iTunes playlist songs with special characters (e.g., accented letters) into music playlists. Only those songs in an album/playlist that are special characters or letters with accents are not imported from the iTunes playlist into the Plex music playlist using the “Import from iTunes…” function in the Playlist tab.
Oddly, these songs still show up in Plex through a standard search but just won’t be transferred into the Plex playlists when importing the playlists from iTunes.
It’s been like this for years.
Does anyone know a solution to this? Is this something that is being fixed?
I had this same problem, and, for me at least, the root cause was how iTunes stores those special characters in the iTunes XML file. So, I had to write a custom Python script to take the entire XML file, decode the URL-encoded strings so that things like é are written as é instead of %C3%A9), and save a new, decoded file that Plex could handle. I could never have done this on my own, but the issue affected me so much that I managed to do it with the assistance of ChatGPT. And now, I use the script all the time. I’m unsure if it would work for other folks or in all situations, but it solved the problem for me. I’d be happy to share if anyone would like to see what I’ve done.
But, as of today (Apr 17), the option to import the iTunes XML seems missing from within Plex. It was there yesterday. I see an update in the last 24 hours, so I hope they have not removed this feature. The options related to it are still in the settings, so hopefully, it’s just a bug. I found your post coming to the forms to find more info about this! So, as of today, I can no longer import from iTunes. Is anyone else seeing the same thing?
