Yes, I only find info relating to software updates.
Well, we donāt know what fixed it, but hopefully it was something on Amazonās end and not just a fluke.
My ongoing problem was never with Gen 1 but 2 Gen 2 Echoās running stereo with an Echo Sub. Complained here for months, then to Amazon, nothing ever changed. Back here now just to report. I have been posting regularly for a long time about two 2nd generation echos running as a stereo pair with an accompanying echo sub abruptly stopping working, never to return. I finally gave up when no fix ever came after months and months. On Black Friday Amazon had the Gen 4 (sphere-shaped) Echo speakers come down to $59 from $99. They are still priced that way and here were are at almost Christmas. Then I even found other deals like a 30% off credit card offer from Discover on a new Echo, a trade-in deal where you send in an old Echo dot and get $5 bucks, but that entitles you to get 25% off on a new Echo. Anyway, putting all these together I was looking at somewhere around 60% off, so I crossed my fingers, and -yep- I have my PLEX library back. I relegated the Gen 2ās to a second stereo pair. So everything like Spotify, etc., will stream on 4 speakers but at least Plex will now stream again on 2 plus the sub. The sound is much improved I have to say, crisper thanks to two tweeters, and more bass thanks to the sub inside the echos firing upward in a completely new design. I got the white ones that match my HP all-in-one white computer. So, better price and better sound are great benefits - though working AT ALL with Plex was reason enough to upgrade. Very happy now until they break something again. I hate to say I half expect it. Seems like it was planned obsolescence to just stop working and have no fix forthcoming, or even an explanation to offer. If you have Gen 1ās or 2ās and Plex in stereo stopped working, upgrade to the 4ās while Amazon has this deal going and youāll be good to go again (FINALLY)! - and with better quality sound in the bargain. Hoping to stop posting about this for the rest of my LIFE lol⦠The frustration is over. Wish Plex would play through the 4 speakers like everything else does, but hey 2 is better than Iāve had in a long, long time.
Havenāt looked at this forum in awhile but⦠woke up about 3am and decided to ask Echo to play some Plex music. And it worked. Mystery resolved (though maybe not solved). I also had problem of 1st gen not playing music but Echo Dot playing music (on crappy little speaker).
This still seems to be a problem on 2nd gen Echo devices in stereo pairs.
I would just upgrade, but I have stereo pairs of Echo devices in two rooms, so thatās four different upgrades Iād have to do (and I feel like Iām rewarding Amazon for poor product support).
Iām glad that itās working again on 1st gen devices, but is there any idea if/when it will be fixed for 2nd gen stereo pairs?
Has this issue been fixed on the tower echos yet?? I havenāt tried mine for ages.
If by ātowerā you mean first generation echo with model number SK705DI (which you can find in semi-hard-to-read text on the bottom of the unit), then yes, it has been resolved to my knowledge. That is the model number I have and it is currently working for me with plex server Version 1.25.7.5604 (which is latest) running on Windows 10.
For what itās worth Plex is currently working great on my first gen Echo (tower) and has been for a while. Earlier this year I was plagued by other issues, Iād ask it to play something and it would often just get stuck there indefinitely with the spinning blue lights. I have a love/hate relationship with the Echo, when it works itās fantastic but they seem to be constantly tinkering and things will just randomly stop working for days/weeks. Frankly I wish theyād leave it alone and stop tinkering with it, I just want it to work.
