Plex not playing videos with EAC audio

HELP

Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319 latest shield

Player Version#: 6.9 Build 14 latest ROKU and new google chromecast

Was working fine until last week. Have 3 Roku devices and one Google Chomecast None will play any videos with EAC audio. Rokus hang at 33%. Non-EAC videos play fine.

web players work fine

Are you on Shield Experience 9? (don’t upgrade if you are not)

What OS are you running the server on?

I saw other topic where you reported this a while ago so it would not be a Shield Experience 9 issue.

Going to see if our QA guys can reproduce. but may need to see your server logs and roku logs

is it a regular chromecast or one of the Google Tv/Chromecasts with the remote?

I just reported a couple of days ago. then I went out and got the google chromecast thinking it may be a roku issue. when it also happened on chromecast i made up a new report.

Someone suggested deleting the codecs folder. I was going to try that but cant get Shield to let me connect to the drive.

I am on 9 and i THINK that may be when it started

It is the one with the remote,

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-01-19_20-57-17.zip (1.0 MB)
not sure how to get roku logs?

ok I saw you provided me directions for the roku logs.

I don’t have that option under advanced system settings.

Did you move the Plex server Data folder to another location on your Shield like to a USB drive?

it is in the apps settings not the system settings. but I have a feeling it is a server issue if happening to multiple clients.

that was my thought,

it does work on the shield player itself AND web clients.

Do you think deleting codecs may help? I can’t get the darn thing to connect to Windows though so i can do that, even after enabling smb1

yes the internal storage was too small, years ago and I attached a 500GB usb drive and moved the data there

sorry I misspoke. it does not play in a web client. it does play when I use the Plex app for windows.

yeah the windows app cna play that natively where I’m pretty sure the browser cannot and would need the server to transcode which it probably can’t due to codec issue.

Shield experience 9 is android 11 which has a lot more restrictions on what an app can do with removable storage and when an app is in background which the server always is.

I don’t think anything changed with regards to how to access storage from a PC but gonna check with some folks who known more than me in that regard

FYI I’ve tried these fixes

Current solutions and hotfixes

  • In Settings, navigate to Apps > Select your app > Permissions > Files and Media > Allow all the time (or Allow depending on the app).
  • Enable external storage and network-attached storage to be seen as it’s connected. In Settings, navigate to Device Preferences > Storage > Scan for media automatically.

not only did those settings not help the other clients it is now causing the local client to crash the entire box when trying to play EAC audio

After a reboot it caused the plex server to completely dissappear under the plex settings…

Changing them back and rebooting the server is back but when I try to use the player it will sometimes crash the shield still even on non EAC videos…

OK after 3 reboots it appears things are back where I was at. EAC not playing except on the shield player and failing on the other clients, but its no longer crashing when trying to play videos.

Thanks for all your help. let me know what more I can do, but going to bed now.

hey. found out hat the issue is fixed in 1.25.3 which was causes by an issue with Easy Audio Encoder (EAE) from Dolby. you can get here with directions on how to install. Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared - #291 by MovieFan.Plex

Due to the issues with Android 11 is why we are providing an apk. There is also a hotfix provided by Nvidia a few post above that one

On your patch when I run it, it says installing for a few seconds and then goes to “App not installed”

I’ve requested the Nvidia patch and suppose I will wait for them to send it to me.

Thanks.

ok thats worse.

the only way I could get anything to play on the shield plex player was to disable resolution and refresh rate I found after several reboots and trial and error…

the Nvidia patch fixed things, I did not need the Plex patch

Thanks for your assistance
