Plex not retrieving movie trailers anymore

Server Version#: Version 1.32.0.6973
OS: Windows 10
Player Version#: All
PlexPass: Lifetime subscription

As of approximately, 4/22/23 (the date on which I added last movie that auto-retrieved a movie trailer) and today, something has happened to my server where trailers are not being auto pulled into Plex and added to EXTRAS. To be clear, I am NOT LOOKING for pre-roll, I just want trailers added to EXTRAS so that when my wife wants to see what the movie is about, she has the trailer to view.

Here is what I’ve done to try and remedy and I’ve had no success, no change in Plex Server behavior:

4/22/23 - Black Panther - Wakanda Forever added and Trailer is showing on Plex server
5/21/23 - She Said added and Trailer NOT SHOWING on Plex server

All subsequent movies I’ve added since 4/22/23, trailers are not being pulled
I have always used

  1. “Refresh all metadata” under the library menu option ** NO CHANGE**
  2. Restarted Plex
  3. Restarted computer
  4. Updating Plex server to 1.32.2.7100 but I suspect, I will have the same result
4.a. Updated and not getting any change

ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated as this is pretty frustrating!!

  1. What appears as the name of this library’s metadata agent, on the Advanced tab of the library’s properties? Edit your library
  2. Do you use any type of “internet filter”? Either as a standalone device (e.g. Pi-Hole) or within your router, or as a software on your server machine?
  3. is the hosts file of your Plex server machine clean? How to reset the Hosts file back to the default - Microsoft Support
  4. Do you use any type of VPN software?
  5. Is the time and date setting of your server machine accurate?

Otto,
Thanks for the QUICK reply. Please see my answers below in BOLD

  1. What appears as the name of this library’s metadata agent, on the Advanced tab of the library’s properties? Edit your library
…Meta Data Agent is “The Movie Database”

  2. Do you use any type of “internet filter”? Either as a standalone device (e.g. Pi-Hole) or within your router, or as a software on your server machine?
No filter. This machine is connected directly to my switch, which is connected to my router. Nothing has changed on my equipment side. No filters

  3. is the hosts file of your Plex server machine clean? How to reset the Hosts file back to the default - Microsoft Support
    **Hosts is clean. Nothing changed:
    |#|127.0.0.1 localhost|
    |#|::1 localhost|

  4. Do you use any type of VPN software?
    Not using a VPN

  5. Is the time and date setting of your server machine accurate?
    Local date/time are synced automatically

Thanks in advance to Otto, or anyone else that can help me resolve this issue!!

That’s the deprecated agent.
It will cease to work in general in the future.

Have you tried converting this library to the new agent? (Careful, this is a one-way street)

Otto,
Not sure what happened to get trailers but they now seem to have populated. Regarding the database, can you help me with:

  1. When you say “The Movie Database” will cease to work, are you referring to “Upgrade the Library”?

  2. If “The Movie Database” will cease to work eventually, do I really have a choice?

  3. What are the implications of making the change since you said it is a one-way choice and I can’t go back once changing?

Thanks again for all your QUICK SUPPORT!!

  1. yes
  2. not really, no
  3. If you wanted to go back to the old agent, you’d have to re-create the library. With the old agent selected from the get-go.
Be advised that at this time, there is no substitute for either the full-automatic subtitle download, nor the .nfo importer, or any of the other 3rd-party agents.
