Plex not scrobbling music from TIDAL to Last.fm

I just played a few tracks and both worked (with up to a 5 minutes delay to appear on Last.fm):

  • Playing an album directly through Plex’s tidal section
  • Adding a library from tidal to my Plex library, and then playing it there.

I may have replied too quickly. I’ll test a few more, but after successfully scrobbling 2 Tidal tracks to last.fm via PlexAmp (slight delay noticed), I tried the PC desktop web-based player, just in case, and it missed the first Tidal scrobble, but correctly scrobbled the 2nd Tidal track.

Then I restarted the Plex server

The next song played on the PC from Tidal hasn’t scrobbled yet (10 minutes ago), but the local library track worked immediately.
Maybe it’s a time delay issue. I see what you’re talking about, @Daimyo.

I’m pretty sure the local tracks get scrobbled after 50% of the track has been played… should the Tidal tracks work the same, or is the criteria different?

I’ll try a few more from PlexAmp to test.

Thanks again for the follow ups. We’re getting closer…

Can you try Plexamp on your desktop and see if the scrobbles consistently work with that? I only use Plexamp for music playback, I can try to repro with Plex Web though.

I’ve been playing Tidal tracks on the iPhone PlexAmp app for the past couple of hours & it’s scrobbling 100% of the time. (sometimes delayed a bit, and sometimes it fires right at 50% of the song being played like it used to). Sweet. I’ll download the plexamp app for the desktop & check that out next. Standby.

@Daimyo: I did some more testing: 15 Tidal songs in a row scrobbled fine with PlexAmp on the iPhone, as well as using the desktop PlexAmp program. I tried the regular Plex app on the phone, which also scrobbled 10+ Tidal tracks ok (but it did feel a little more delayed to show up on last.fm, but not too bad. Could just be traffic).

I can test web based Plex on the PC tomorrow if anyone chimes in with any issues.

Today’s update: scrobbling local library tracks from the PC web based Plex server works fine, but it does not scrobble any of the Tidal sourced tracks. (Tested several Tidal tracks I had loaded in my library & some I had not).

Plex Web Version 4.43.1
Plex Server Version 1.20.1.3252

PlexAmp still works great in all cases I could test.

Sorry for the multiple posts in a row … I’ll await other user feedback to see if anyone confirms my results on the web version.

Looks like it’s working for my TIDAL plays via Plexamp!

tidal scrobbling from plexamp seems to work, but still no luck with the web client.

I finally got around to testing the web client and can confirm it’s still not working there. All of the tracks played from Plexamp on my drive into work did, however.

Not sure if this is related, but it also appears that plays of TIDAL tracks that have been added to my library are not being added to ListenBrainz with the webhook or being added to my play history…

I usually don’t usually use the web client any more, so I’m not sure when this behavior started.

EDIT: It appears it worked earlier for a couple of TIDAL plays but has not since. If it continues, I guess I’ll start a new thread. Is anyone else seeing the same thing as far as pay history is concerned? I guess that would explain the ListenBrainz/webhook issue. It’s not getting “played.”

EDIT: Things seem normal using Plexamp.

Thanks all for testing the other clients. A few members of the team are investigating the client discrepancy, thanks for hanging in there!

Sorry, is this still from Plexamp or now from web?

Yeah, sorry. That’s only happening via the web client. Everything appears to work as expected via Plexamp.

EDIT: And specifically with TIDAL tracks.

So, another issue that may be related.

Most of the time, I’m getting duplicate scrobbles to ListenBrainz when TIDAL content that has been added to my library is played.

When I add TIDAL content to my library, the metadata is matched to what MusicBrainz uses and I’ll often tweak it further. So, in the example above, you can see the song gets scobbled using local metadata information and then again with how it’s named in TIDAL.

This is via Plexamp as the there’s still an issue with TIDAL plays not getting added to play history or scrobbling.

Also, while only Last.fm is only making 1 scrobble, it appears it’s using the TIDAL info, so there is something weird going on.

@Daimyo, any update to report? Unable to scrobble to Last.fm/ListenBrainz when using web client. Also, TIDAL tracks that have been added to music library are not getting their play history updated either when played via the web client, which I think is probably related.

Just to add to @Noah0504, when using Plexamp with Chromecast tracks from Tidal aren’t being scrobbled either

Just wondering if there are any updates. I’m still getting double scrobbles to ListenBrainz and the wrong track information being scrobbled to Last.fm (which I have since stopped scrobbling to).

Also, the TIDAL songs played via web client are still not being scrobbled or having their play history recorded by Plex. Very annoying.

Hey there,

I followed up with the TIDAL team, and they’re gonna take another look at it when possible (Plex devs are mid development cycle right now and are all slammed with work).

I can also reproduce the issue with editing an item added to Plex via TIDAL, then double listened on Listenbrainz. I suspect that’s another Plex-side issue, after talking a bit with @aubrey.wodonga a bit about it.

Thanks for your patience guys

Just giving this thread a little poke to keep it open.

I, too, care about this.

Just giving this a bump.

Also, the following is still an issue (pretty sure it’s related), but the thread is now locked:
