Hello, Long time Plex user and fan. Even though I have been a long time user I have never needed to post here. I have just updated to the latest 1.19 server release and it seems to not stream “Live TV” to my amazon firestick. I have rebooted and restarted all devices and even re-installed the plex client on firestick. This does work streaming to my IOS/phone but no to firestick as of this change. Attached are my plex logs. Are there any other details I can share which would help.
Can you please provide a bit more details about what exactly happens, aside from “it seems to not stream”? Including any steps to replicate, and exactly what happens on screen. Logs from both client and server would also be appreciated
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.
Steps to replicate,
1.Open Plex Client on FireStick4k
2.On the Left, scroll down to “Live TV & DVR”
3.Pick any channel via the “What’s On” or the “Guide” at the top
The client will then display an error on the client: “Error : An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this App”
as background : this same FireStick4k Client can successfully play TV-Show and Movies.
Additional background : this limited to Firestick4k ( I have tested on 2 devices ) all firesticks have ethernet interface not wireless.
Additional : steaming live TV “Live TV & DVR” still works on IOS and Older original Firestick hardware.
Server Logs attached Plexlogs.zip (435.9 KB)
I have cleared cache and cleared data and uninstalled and re-installed on firestick4k
I don’t know how to pull logs from Firestick4k devices, If you have any guidance?
Same things is happening to me with my 4K Fire TV devices. A Fire TV Stick in my daughter’s room, Toshiba Fire TV in the Living Room and new Fire TV Cube in the Family Room. I have a primary Plex server and a backup on my Synology NAS both connected to my HDHomeRun Prime . Everything is updated to the latest available version but none of the Fire TV gadgets will play Live TV from either server. Also, the Android Plex app (latest version of course) on my Samsung Galaxy S10 has the same problem. Help!
I’m typing this on my Windows 10 laptop and when I use Plex Web, I seem to be able to play my Live TV channels just fine. The iOS Plex app on my iPad is still able to play Live TV too. Very strange.
Hi J,
Here is the log from my Toshiba 4K FireTV this morning. I snipped out the old stuff so you could see just the issue. You can see where I sent to settings and enabled the New Player. Then I tried to play Live TV, channel 508 (local Fox HD station, Boston 25). It doesn’t work. Then I go back into settings and turn off the New Player, go back to Live TV, and Fox 25 HD plays just fine. I can send a log from my server too if you want, but I thought this would be most helpful.
Thanks,
N
I went down the path; this could be my Local PMS install so:
I uninstalled my PMS
Deleted on my QNAP NAS /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer
rebooted,
Did a new install of 1.19.1.2645-ccb6eb67e-x86_64
I am also seeing this on my Firestick and my 4K FireTV. I noticed there was a. We update for Plex server. Even after update, same issue. As the other have stated, I am able to watch Live TV on Server, IOS phone/iPad, Samsung Android phone and Samsung TV. This seems to be localized to just Fire devices. FYI, I also concur, if I disabled New Player in Firstick Plex player, I am able to watch Live TV.
I am seeing this on a fire tv 4k cube, I can actually play live tv is i pick it from the recently watched (as my Roku works fine) but as soon as i pick Guide it just freezes and takes me back to the fire tv home screen.
I am also experiencing the same issue watching live TV on my Fire Stick 4k after updating the server to 1.19, I have however discovered that streaming Live TV works after reverting back to the old video player.
To disable the new video player select your username from the menu and go to settings, scroll down to Advanced and then across to Enable new video player. Once this was turned off streaming live TV worked for me again.
