My Plex was working great and then all of a sudden just stopped. None of the apps on my TVs, consoles or devices launch. They all just time out. I’ve tried everything I can think of. I paid for a lifetime pass but have no use of the application and there’s no support line to call. Can someone help?
Is this your own server, or a remote server?
If remote server, then please provide name of remote server, as well as as much info you can here
And if own server, what is the os it’s running, like Windows, Mac etc.
My own server. It’s on Mac. I actually got it working but it think its a remote connection? Even though Im at home. Something to do with wired/wifi connection I think?
I also have a harddrive plugged into my Nvedia Shield that it doesnt see at all anymore
What’s the IP of Mac and Shield?
They need to be on the same IP Net
Sadly no knowledge about Shield, but sounds like a separate issue, so suggest a new thread for that
Yeah they are different IPs. Is it possible for them to have the same IP while one is wired and the other is wireless?
Not IP’s, but IP Nets
What’s the IP of both?
Depending on your router, it’s possible to have them on the same IP Net
Mac a.b.c.d
Shield 192.168.0.5
I also have my xbox, smarttv, amazon fire stick and appletv…I assume that this process can be done on all of those devices as well?
Mod: Edited public IP Address
Hmmm…Not using what is known as Private Address Space for your Mac
If you browse to https://app.plex.tv/desktop can you then see your server?
yes. what is Private Address Space?
that was my ip from the internet. once i go into network settings, it’s 192.168.5.32 on my mac
any ideas?
Private Address Space refers to a network with IP addresses which are not routable on the public Internet, eg. your home network. These usually start with 10.x.x.x or 172.16.x.x or 192.168.x.x. RFC 1918 describes these networks:
https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1918
Section 3 is of interest here.
Having said that, based on the IP addresses you’ve provided it appears that your server and client(s) are on different logical networks (192.168.0.0 and 192.168.5.0). This could cause the PMS server to see those clients as remote. This situation could have multiple causes, but a common one is having two (or more) routers on your network. For example, an ISP provided one plus your own, say for wireless access.
If this is the case here, it would be best if you could place your own router in bridge mode. Whether and how you can do this depends on your particular router. Look in your docs for something called “bridged” or “transparent” mode.
it’s not letting me post this. apologies if it’s repeated…
I put it into bridge mode and everything worked fine except my laptop. couldnt get online.
I can also set an ip on my router. cant i just make it the same as the modem or something?
It posted ok.
Your laptop may still have an IP address from the non-bridged setup. It may help to restart it to force it to renew its IP through DHCP. You may want to take this opportunity to check the devices on your network to make sure they’re all on the same IP subnet now (192.168.0.0 or 192.168.5.0).
