Plex now through relay server?

Sorry in advance, as I’m not super technically inclined as many of you seem to be.

I use the Plex server on my desktop (which is connected to my home network via WiFi) to stream videos through my Roku (wireless, on the same network) on my flat screen in the living room.

It has been working flawlessly, until an update or two ago (I forget exactly when it happened), and now, all of my video quality is terrible, and it says I’m going through a relay server.

I’ve skimmed through the myriad of technical documents that suggest ways to fix it, but I can’t seem to make it work. Does anyone have a second to help me with this?

Thanks in advance.
Chris

First suggestion: wired connection for both server and client.

Have you seen this article? Basically there is a problem with your remote access. Check if it’s working properly.
I would also suggest you connect your Plex Media Server to your network via Ethernet cable, could save you few headaches.

There are 2 possible ways to solve this:

  1. Disable ‘Secure Connections’ under
    Settings - Server - Network
(restart Plex Server afterwards, and after a few minutes your clients as well)

  2. If you’d rather not disable Secure Connections, you’ll have to change a few settings in your router
(and hope that your router actually provides you a way to change them. There are unfortunately routers out there, which don’t allow it. Then you can only resort to 1) )
