Trascoding plex subtitle

Hello good night friends :stuck_out_tongue:, I bring you a query, I have my plex server mounted on my private PC, Ryzen 5 1600 16 GB of RAM 1070 asus, well the point is that I have 100 MB of internet, but I try to watch a movie In my LG smartv, in Latin audio it is perfect, but when I want to see in English it transcodes, and the same thing happens if I add subtitles, and it gives me buffering and therefore it looks bad, the movies I see them at a resolution of 1080p format mkv, the pc is w10 pro 64 bit! and well I would like to know if there is any solution, because it was the frustration that I am now using emby which I do not like very much! greetings from Argentina

Is this a 1080p TV or a 4K TV? If it’s a 1080p, then it’s running the older version of the Plex app. This version cannot support subtitles, so it will always transcode the video when using any subtitles.

You should not get transcoding just by switching to the English audio track. You’ll need to provide logs from PMS for us to look into why. In the TV app, enable the option to send logs to your server. Then playback the video with the English audio, let it play for about 1 minute, stop, then get the PMS logs.

hmm, this is a little bit off. I just got a 2019 LG TV, but it’s just 1080 since I don’t need 4k in my bedroom. Does this mean that even if my TV was made this year I will not get the latest app?

Is this in Plex’s or LG’s hand?

thanks.

Correct. From our testing, the new app runs horribly slow on these 1080 TVs. They just don’t have the cpu power to even run the UI.

but is there anything to be done about transcoding? I understand transcoding DTS - the audio stream, but why does that force the video stream to be transcoded as well?

Are you sure int’s trancoding the video. It might just be remuxing it. I would need to see your log to see why.

if it is a 108op TV, but the funny thing is that in my room I have the same Smartv brand but 4k Hdr and I can see the content without any problem same configuration

Transcoding happens when I add subtitles not audio!

The 4K LG TV’s run the newer version of the app which does support showing subtitles without the need to transcode then. The 1080p TVs run the older version of the app which has no support for subtitles so they have to be transcoded into the video by PMS.

I have 32LM6300PLA 1080p 2019 quad core LG TV. I have the same problem with srt and (older) Plex app unnecessary transcoding. The TV’s internal player, Xplay and Emby can all play files with external srt without transcoding.

Will these 2019 1080p TV’s ever get a working Plex app? And by working Plex app I mean playing files with external srt without transcoding.

And is there any solution to this problem? that the truth is very annoying !! and you do not fully enjoy the plex service! I’m going to have to go to emby, really a shame!

There are no plans currently to upgrade the app for these 1080p TVs.

GREAT!!! this is perfect!

Well, guess it’s time to finally ditch the sh***y PLEX for good and switch to Emby.

It sucks that this is the case. I got a new TV and can’t use an app I love.
Back to the old faithful chromecast it is then.
