Plex on a boat?

I’ve been running a ubuntu plex server on an inexpensive computer for about 4 years.

My family and I are planning to spend the summer cruising the waterways of the east coast. I want to bring this computer, but think a NAS box may be a better option. Electricity is going to be precious, so a low power option would be great. I only have need for a couple of TB and none of the movies or shows are higher than dvd quality.
Like to keep it under $200.

What should I be looking for?

First, how many different locations are going to be playing media at the same time?

Probably just one. Maybe two sometimes.

I recommend you this thread by the late NedtheNerd

In addition to what Otto recommended, you might consider just setting up a laptop and connect it to a TV and just play local movies. No sense in setting up a server when a much simpler solution is probably the best solution.

For the price of an external USB 3.0 disk the Seagate Personal Cloud NAS is a great value low power Plex Server. You can then use any simple client e.g. Roku, Fire TV etc

The majority of the viewing will be by our girls on their iPads, which I why I’m thinking server.

In which case the Seagate Personal Cloud is a simple no fuss one box solution as no transcoding will be necessary.
