Plex Server Recommendation for Boat

Hey guys.

I have been a long-time Plex fan. I recently moved on to a sailboat where I now live. I have been running my Plex Media Server off a Pi3B then a Pi4. However, I am becoming frustrated at the need to transcode my files in order for them to play ok on the Pi4. Therefore I was wondering if anyone had any low-power servers or alternatives that they would recommend? My main limitation is I must be able to run off my 12V system, but I can achieve this with an inverter or transformer.

Thanks in advanced.

Nvidia shield + external usb drive or small nas.

Thank you for that. I was wondering about the Nvidea Shield. Is it the recent TV Pro you recommend? I have heard there have been some issues with using it with Plex.

Get a RasPi and put Kodi on it. The most power-efficient solution.

You will get frustrated with Plex because it isn’t made to be run without internet connectivity for longer periods of time.

This is exactly what I have on order. The Nvidia Shield TV Pro, and an 8TB USB external hard drive. I’m all in for about $300 now. No turning back!

Otto makes a good point regarding internet connectivity.

Shield is still a good choice since it can still use kodi/mrmc if necessary for completely off the grid use.
