Plex on Alexa

I have seen much discussion of the Plex ‘skill’ on Alexa concerning Plex playback to speaker groups. The inability to play to speaker groups is frustrating.

NOW, quite accidentally, I think I have found a way that this can be accomplished, quite easily without any tweaking. On a whim one day, I wondered if it was possible to play a stream from Pandora to my everywhere group, something I do frequently, but then on a single echo, request a Plex stream. Well, that worked and I could simultaneously hear both streams being played. The Interesting part is that as soon as the first Plex track ended, I could no longer hear the Pandora playback. Going to another speaker location, I realized all of the speakers were now playing the Plex stream. I have been able to reproduce this several times now, so it isn’t a fluke. Now that the cat is out of the bag, I expect this ‘feature’ might soon be disabled.

It seems it is disabled now. Let’s see if we can get Plex to update and restore it.

It has been working for me for years.

There have been many posts asking about Alexa the past couple of weeks and no responses at all from Plex.

Seems to me they’re ignoring it and hoping it goes away. On brand for Plex.

Alexa is from amazon, this is a comercial issue, so Amazon look at Plex as a competitor to the Amazon music service, when Amazon buys Plex the problem is resolved the next day!!!
