Plex On Automobile Infotainment Systems

I was just thinking about wouldn’t be nice if I could pull up Plex on a newer vehicles infotainment system?
I was going to make a voting poll, but the limit I think is 10, so that is out of the question (someone with more forum power should create one).

So here is a good list of them:

  • AcuraLink
  • Audi MMI
  • BMW iDrive
  • Cadillac Cue
  • Chevy MyLink
  • Chrysler Uconnect
  • Ford Sync
  • HondaLink
  • Hyundai BlueLink
  • Infiniti InTouch
  • Kia UVO
  • Lexus Enform
  • Mazda Connect
  • Mercedes-Benz Command
  • Nissan Connect
  • Subaru Starlink
  • Tesla
  • Toyota Entune
  • VW MIB/MIB2

The real question is how does Plex work with the manufacturers? If things like Pandora and iHeartRadio can, why not Plex?

Amen! Would LOVE to see this - at LEAST the audio.

how would using apple carplay or android auto play into matters? Wouldn’t it be easier to hop on to those two systems then designing an app for each manufacture?

i am a really stupid person

I’d definitely like an app for the BMW iDrive (which is common across the entire BMW line). Actually, it’s not a full app. It’s a front end (Amazon, Pandora, and Spotify have one) that connects with and controls the app on the iPhone (in my case). It allows one to let the BMW nav system control the phone app with complete and easy menus, etc. BMW’s iDrive goes back further than almost any other “portable device” interface. It does almost everything that CarPlay does within an established framework. Strong recommendation to support that environment.
