It seems that it has been fixed
Not sure if Plex team did anything or it was Amazon since quite a few of us opened up a ticket with them.
Itâs not fixed for me, I still canât get Plex to play anything on my Echo
Back up and working for me. Perhaps just needs a bit of time to be effective for all of us?
Just tried it here and Iâm happy to report itâs working again. @vanstinator, was anything changed on your end?
We hadnât changed anything yet no. Weâd been tracking some caching errors on our end that stopped manifesting sometime in the last few hours.
Well something has obviously changed right?
Back up and working for me also, letâs see how long it lasts!
Working again (phew, I have a load of echo links and standalone DACs JUST for this purpose). I hope itâs easy to track it down, I can do without that again!
Can confirm working again (UK) also had problems with Global Player skill so I now assume the problem was at Amazonâs end? Note if you still have problems, power off and on your echo device.
The problem was definitely on our end but appears to have been rather ephemeral and related to something in our caching layer. Weâre working on figuring out what exactly happened to prevent future occurrences.
Same problem with all alexa enabled devices.
I get the following message in response to âAlexa, ask Plex to play musicâ
âYour Plex server appears to be on line but remote access is not available. Please see your alexa app for details how to enable it or select a different server.â
The skill is correctly enabled and shows as being linked.
Alexa is shown as an authorised device in Plex.
Plex works fine on my android tablet but only by using the plex app.
Hey @rao4844, what I have done in these cases are:
- restart the plex server (usually this fixes it for me)
- disable skill in Alexa and enable it back (and link again)
@vanstinator, was or was not (was it a typo)?
Hi
Thanks for reply.
I have tried doing both of things you suggested many times over the last few days.
Finally, today, I did a re-install of plex which seems to have worked.
The aspect of the past few days that concerns me most is that I know I did not add, delete or change anything on my computer.
Anyway, it all works at the moment.
So itâs working ok for me via Amazon Alexa devices but not through Alexa Sonos. My Sonos Beam is Alexa enabled but no longer plays plex music. . On my phone I see this message.
Unable to play⊠the file is in an unsupported format.
anyone else seeing this?
I spoke too soon when I said this was fixed.
I use Plex to play my own high quality files to an Echo Link (which is connected to an external DAC and a prope HiFi). My devices all use the Link for everything. But Plex, the one thing I need to play on the Link, plays on the Show or Dot or whatever, they donât pass stuff on to the Links. This only happens with Plex. This started the same time as the skill issue (now resolved). Itâs going to be related.
Am I too cynical if I think Amazon want to knobble Plex so they can sell their appallingly low quality âhigh qualityâ music service?
Looks like I have three Echo Links to dump in a skip
Interestingly⊠using my android phone i can play plex music through the Sonos using the Sonos plex interface. Has anyone got any ideas as where the issue might be?
The âPlex not working on Echoâ issue has been solved.
However there is now another problem - Plex no long forwards to an Echo Link.
I tried to start a thread on this but it got closed.
I would actually like support on this, because it renders both the Link and Plex quite useless to anyone trying to get reasonable quality sound reproduction out of Alexa.
Oh sorry, is your issue specific to the Link? Echoâs are working fine?
Yes, echos working fine now - except they no longer forward the sound to the link. This is specific to the Plex skill.
I donât know if this is a new issue, or a by-product of the last one.
Soundâs similar to a reported issue of Alexa no longer working with home groups which uses the same Amazon feature to link devices together. Not sure if itâs related to the Echoâs stopping, but letâs keep it here until we know more.
Fair enough. Cloning five el cheapo fanless PCs, installing JRiver, and then Iâll pin five basic tablets to the wall in each room to control it all. Alexa voice control is jolly nice, but itâs becoming pretty clear the Plex skill is an unsupported red headed stepchild
As for the Echo Links, they have precisely one use and Amazon doesnât seem interested in them not actually working. Fortunately four of the five are in the return window.
