Plex on Echo Flex not working

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3483 on Raspberry Pi
Player Version#: Unknown, where is the Plex Skill version listed?

Alexa support has completely stopped working for me. I can play from the server with different players (including remote access), so I’m assuming this is an issue with the Plex skill. I’ve been through the enable/disable skill troubleshooting steps and it doesn’t resolve the issue.

Is the Plex skill currently working for anyone, or is there an issue in the cloud with the Plex skill?

You haven’t said what the problem is or what command you tried.

It is not working on echo devices for me, tried echo dot, flex and echo plus.

Was working fine until today when it doesn’t do anything light spins on echo then silence.

It is also mentioned by other users in a different thread. Where they say amazon has identified the issue and will fix in 24-48 hours, I’ll believe that when I see it

Thanks for letting me know this is a common problem. Issue sounds the same as I have. All commands starting ‘ask plex play …’ result in light flashing and then nothing plays.

I’ve also tried on an Echo Dot this evening where the problem is the same.

Hello all, just chiming in with my experience with this issue, as I’m facing the same thing with my Plex and Echo since this morning.

Plex is able to communicate with my server without any issues on both my Android and Fire Stick, but my Echo refuses to respond to the majority of “Ask Plex…” voice commands. I say majority, because I can successfully “change” my server to my server using “Alexa, ask Plex to change my server to [my server]” - the Echo recognises that my server exists. All other voice commands result in either nothing at all, or a generic “Oops” message from the Echo.

For example, if I try “Alexa, ask Plex to play Tangled Up in Blue by Bob Dylan”, it thinks about it for a second (lights up) and then just does nothing. Same with “Alexa, ask Plex to play the album Blood on the Tracks”, or “Alexa, ask Plex to play some music”. I’ve uninstalled the Plex Skill, unlinked my account and reinstalled/re-linked but am still facing the same issues.

Glad to see mention here: here that Amazon are at least aware of the issue, though like many others I’m skeptical as to how quickly they will resolve this.

In short, this is without doubt a problem with the Plex Skill for the Echo and not Plex itself or our server configurations. I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread!

Hi, I can also add that my Plex app on my phone works with or without WiFi, so local and remote connections are ok. If I use Alexa on my phone the reply is ‘cannot connect to the network at the moment, please try again later’.

Did this just start for everyone in the last day or so?

Did for me.

Yep, the issues started the morning of the 3rd for me.

Still not working for me either 3/11/20 8:20am UK
Otherwise Plex is working fine on my iPhone and Fire TV

Perhaps related, so will mention it here on the off chance, but i have had issues with Sonos as of yesterday also. Completely stopped working. Now using Airplay2 to route laptop audio to Sonos, and that works a charm, but casting to Sonos from within Plex, or trying to play Plex source from the Sonos app doesn’t work.

Exactly the same issue for me. Occasionally changes from the flashing blue and gives me the ‘oops! Something went wrong, I have notified the Plex team’ message.
Was working fine 2 days ago.

Thanks for posting this - have same issue with Alexa “thinking” (flashing whole ring alternating blue and green) on any Plex command. Had tried just about everything to fix, however problem is clearly in the cloud.

To add to what’s been said, Alexa/Amazon does route through to my local Plex server since I can deathorise/remove the device on the Plex server and I can then see it pop up again when it connects again, however nothing streams.

Same here. Get no response from any ‘ask plex’ command from Echo speakers. Trying through the alexa app (android 10) gives a ‘having difficulty connecting to the network’ response.
Sometimes I get a correct response to a ‘change server’ command, but nothing will stream to the echo speakers.
No problems streaming through the web app (on Win10 PC) or plexamp (android 10).
I have tried:
Re-setting up the Echo speakers
Rebooting the Echo speakers
Disabling and re-enabling the skill
De-authorising and re-authorising the alexa device
Updating Plex Server (ubuntu 20.0.4) to latest version on PPA release

Mine has been down since the 3rd too :frowning: Before that I’ve been using this Plex skill on echo devices for over a year. It appears to see the server but is unable to connect to a stream. Tried a couple of server updates and re linking but no music :frowning:

Really hope this gets fixed as it’s by far my go too for playing a huge library on Alexa

I have asked to open up a ticket. I guess if you go to “Customer Service” at the very bottom of the page and then to “Contact Us”, you could ask their team to open a ticket. That way they see it is not just one or two people.

We’ll be looking at this today. Both Alexa and Sonos share common infrastructure on our end so given both integrations are having issues that seems suspect. I’ll update once we know more or have a resolution.
