P.S. I believe that if the Plex app isn’t logged into an account, it will show the Discover stuff by default. So I believe you’ll have to at least log it into an account. I think the Discover stuff is also disabled on Managed Accounts vs. the Admin account. Could be a way to remove it from this situation.
The content on the Amazon home screen is content Plex is promoting from their ad-supported Movies & TV service. It has nothing to do with Discover, and as the OP said, being logged in/logged out, or having the ad-supported content disabled doesn’t matter.
It’s not influenced by the user themselves at all, it’s just poorly-curated advertising.
So everybody with Plex installed on Fire TV devices is getting that now? I’ve blocked updates on the Fire TV for the last 6 months so I don’t have that version of their home screen. That’s crazy.
That is the current FireTV launcher and it can have promoted titles that change to match the content of the streaming service app you have highlighted. I have them too. I don’t feel I’m seeing promoted titles of those specific types from Plex on mine, though. Maybe I just haven’t been using my Fire Stick enough? Living room TV has a Shield Pro on it and I normally just click right into the app I want and ignore the advertised programs on either one.
The recommendations aren’t always inappropriate; sometimes it seems worse that others. There is usually something with a very adult theme if you scroll through the recommendations.
The only solution I can find is to move the Plex app off the homescreen so you don’t get recommendations at all. Less convenient, but safer for the kids.
Really seems off that it would suggest any of it we if I have online services turned off on Plex since they won’t actually play if I select one. Is Plex really buying that much space on the Amazon home screen? It seems like a terrible idea, adult content or not.
I think you’re just expecting a bit much integration between the Plex app and the Fire TV Interface here. It’s just a simple trigger/matching thing. (“If ‘Plex’ app highlighted = display content from advertising partner ‘Plex’”). The status of the app or its configuration has nothing to do with it. The deal is between Amazon and Plex for ad space.
Note: You could sideload Kodi onto the Fire Stick and then install the Plex for Kodi plugin on it (or that fork of it now, I guess) and that would allow access to the Plex content without any promotional posters on the home screen.
Umm, are you sure those are from Plex? Our row should say “Free Movies & TV & more From Plex”.
Edit - Sorry. That is coming from Plex. Our Fire TV integration is different from what I was looking at. I’m checking with the team why these are showing.
Hmm, pretty sure that’s not right. That top row of recommendations changes as you highlight the different apps at the top. It’s definitely Plex content, and it launches Plex (to that content) if you click it. So how would Amazon be controlling that?
Yes, it is Plex content. Plex provides Amazon a list of what we have and they are putting that recommended row together themselves. If you check the app itself, you won’t find that same row of movies.
Interesting. I’ve just checked my Fire Cube and I had disabled all the personalisation options, so presumably Amazon is just having a wild stab in the dark about what we might like.
I’ll try turning the personalisation on and see if it improves.
