When playing videos which have worked for years I am encountering 2 problems:
The video doesn’t play. Just getting a spinning gear.
or
The video doesn’t play but gives me a freeze frame. I can fast forward to another location but get a frozen frame.
This happens when playing both on an Apple TV and on my Mac.
What is interesting is that the problem is not consistent.
I can play a video just fine but when I try to replay it get a freeze frame…
Some videos work fine. Others never play at all giving the spinning wheal.
Looked in log files but don’t know which logfile to check to what to look for.
Still having problems?
A couple of general debugging tips would be.
When you quit PMS, start PMS, wait 3min and Quit PMS again, you create a very nice clean log file which can be used to check if PMS is launching well. The log file you want is:
Searching it for ERROR or CRITICAL is usually enough to spot bad things.
If you don’t see anything obvious in the log after the exact procedure I described, you probably want to start the video that causes problems, let that issue occur for 30sec., stop playback, quit PMS, and grab the log file again.
SLOW QUERY i think is what we see when the database is crufty and needs optimizing.
There’s a small possibility of lower level Mac issues, from heat to memory to software to DNS, in light of the fact that those videos played well in the past. But let’s check out the PMS angle if this is still going on with your system.
