Plex on OMV - iOS issue & Apple TV issue

Hi

I have recently noticed that all of our iOS apps are not able to play content from our server which is Version 1.0.0.2261 on an Open Media Vault server that a friend set up for me (I am not that technically savvy).

We have just noticed that all of our iOS devices can not stream content (they show the interface through the App and our content but when you try and play content it stays busy for a few seconds then reverts to the media page). When I try and play through the web portal we get a message “There was a problem playing this item”.

I am not sure when we last updated the software on OMV but it was literally a few days ago.

As I say, I am not that technically savvy so I don’t want to mess around with the OMV too much.

By the way, all our media plays fine on our Smart TV (Samsung) and through our Macs but we are getting the same problem through all of our Apple TVs (two of them).

Would appreciate any help I can get.

Many thanks.

What format are the shows/media?

All MKV files

Update to 1.0.3. That’s not a format, that’s a container. Open the file with Mediainfo and you’ll see the video / audio codecs.

Thanks for reply.

Not sure how to update to 1.0.3 as OMV shows no update available. I am not sure I am confident enough to do a manual update (don’t understand it) unless there was a simple guide.

Sorry files are H264/AC3.

Guessing I may need to wait for another update which will hopefully fix the issue

By way we are also running Plex version 4.2 on iOs

Another update that you aren’t willing to attempt? Update to 1.0.3 then report back. I’m sure with a bit of googling you’ll be fine.

Will have a go in the morning. Thanks for your posts and help, really appreciate it.

I think the real question here is: What caused streaming to stop; the OMV update or the PMS update? Diagnosis should start right there. Moving forward and adding more/new software will only turn soup into mud.
