I’m hoping to get some advice on upgrading to 1.43 on my QNAP. I recently lost access from mobile and am being told that I need to be on 1.43 in order for it to be compatible from the Plex App on mobile. I tried the manual update and couldn’t get it working. In the process, I ended up removing the 1.43 and reinstalled the 1.30 from the app store. I’ve been able to get it back up and running but I lost all my configuration and have begun rebuilding playlists and such.
Now that we have the background out of the way, my question is in 2 parts:
How can I upgrade to 1.43 on my nas.
What is the best approach to backing up my configuration so that if I have to deal with rebuilding again, it won’t be so much work. I’ve had to rebuild several times over the years and am thankful for the core data being backed up but not sure how to save all the work I do in playlists, etc.
It actually took less time for the 2nd upgrade than the 1st. Is that because my DB wasn’t really that large since I just nuked the whole thing my mistake before asking for help?
Also, what’s the best way to backup/recover the db so that if this happens again, I don’t have to go back through and rebuild my IMDB Matching/playlists?
Nuking the DB (uninstalling) before the upgrading erased everything so your new DB was pretty small. It didn’t have time to accumulate all the problematic records as well as everything associated with incremental upgrades over time.
The best way to do backups, which can be done from the GUI.
Create a shared folder named (exactly) PlexData. It can exist anywhere.
It’s a placeholder and won’t actually contain any data.
Restart PMS , let it run a few minutes, then Stop PMS
Open FileStation and look inside PlexData
In it you’ll find Plex Media Server.
Click into Plex Media Server. (You’ll now see all the server’s internal files)
Highlight everything in that view (at the top)
Compress everything to a ZIP
– Don’t forget to change the name (FileStation doesn’t git a good name by default)
Hi ChuckPa, I am in the same boat.
Could you PM me links to both distros?
BTW, when I go to the area to download the QNAP “previews”, I am fully signed in, but as soon as I click on “QNAP Server” to get to the QNAP downloads, I am signed out, and it shows no downloads, of course because I’m not signed in. I go back to the original server download page, and it is like a scene from Groundhog Day. I have attempted this in both Chrome and Firefox with the same results.
Thanks in advance.
Hi @ChuckPa I’d also like links to the relevant QNAP packages too please if possible
I’m running a QNAP TS-464 (QTS 5.2.5) (Intel Celeron N5095) which is still running the default QNAP PMS 1.30.0 (checking for updates I still don’t see 1.41.7 yet)
I’ve just downloaded the qpkg for 1.41.8 for Intel
I ask only because if you’re already above 1.40.0, you can’t safely go back without restarting from scratch. (we just confirmed this with a few others)
Also, we’ve discovered cases of specific DB damage caused by power fails which PMS doesn’t detect until too late and my DBRepair is not programmed (Yet) to look for – which might be happening soon)
