Plex on Roku crashes with certain episodes

I have two different Roku Streaming Sticks that both crash when I open up a specific TV Episode in Plex.

About a second after the episode details open, Plex crashes and the Roku Main Menu pops up. It does not crash when opened thru a web page, not the mobile app.

What log file should I be looking at?

I don’t have an answer but your not alone. I have one episode (so far) that does exactly the same thing. If I solve I’ll post here. Also be watching this to see if anyone else sorts it first!

If you only seem to be having a problem with one file it usually comes down that one file.

Remux the file using something like MkvToolNix or BOX4. This doesn’t reencode the video, it’ll only take 30 seconds

This happens now and again for me and this is the fix 99% of the time

If the problem continues, just upload your entire log file after it crashes

I noticed the same problem yesterday and determined that the problem has something to do with the metadata for the particular episode that’s causing the crash. If I unmatch the show, it plays fine but as soon as I match it again, it’ll crash the Plex app on Roku.

Hopefully, a resolution can be found soon!

Unfortunately not it. Does not get to the part of playing the video, I know what your talking about. I’ll see about getting logs.
It kicks you out just going to the “show”. I’ve created a dummy show, put the same file in it and it plays it fine.
Like Roku or Plex has something corrupt (think Roku) since we player plays it. Re istalled plex app on the roku and same issue… the search continues.

labbean, did you try using the correct name, etc., but unmatching it? If it plays after unmatching it, it’s in the metadata…

Thanks! I had tried Fix Match even deleting the show and re add. Doing “Unmatch” of the show worked. Played the media under it as normal.

Okay, so clearly there’s an issue with the most recent Plex app for Roku crashing on something it doesn’t like within the metadata of some titles. Is this thread enough to alert the developers to the issue or is there some other, more formal process to submit bug reports to them?

Can anyone share the show that causes the issue? Please feel free to DM me the details. Thanks!

We have this fixed in the preview version of our channel. We’ve been trying to get that released for the past couple of weeks. However, it’s still going through Roku’s cert review. In the meantime, can you try the preview channel?

I can confirm that the preview channel version has indeed fixed the issue with the episodes I have that kept causing the current version to crash. Thank you!! :+1: :+1:

The preview version also fixed a crash I was having on a random show.

Awesome news! Sorry for the troubles. I also wanted to mention we were able to fix this upstream, so it should no longer crash in any Roku channel version you are running.

Thanks again…I can confirm that the current (non-preview) version no longer crashes on the episodes that crashed it a few days ago! :+1:
