Plex on Samsung and LG Smart TV become slow and lagging interface

1 other thing it might be an additional problem or related to this problem).
I updated PMS to Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173 today.

The new PMS update has changed the subtitles (the ratio, borders, font, and it’s a bit out of sync).

When I test it on the pc the subs seems sync enough but the tv app is slightly, but noticible, off
It could be that the TV app together with the slow and lagging that it is having problems with the subtitles.

UPD: After hours of trial and error testing I think I’ve found the problem. The TV app has, in addition to slow and lag, sub problems. I think the sizes have shifted. Normal is large etc. etc. and this is causing problems in its sync.

Admin: please also look into this when fixing the slow/lag problem of the TV app.

Same here on our Samsung NU8000. Though it works and really nice modern layout its sluggish and lagging that you are better off browsing Netflix. I hope it will be fix as soon as possible.

Would love an update to the Plex app on Samsung TV’s. The interface is incredibly slow whether it’s navigation or loading season/episode lists. Thumbnails take forever to appear.

Same here on my LG TV.
I believe the TV app was fine until I updated my server to the latest version a couple of days ago.
Flickering images when loading in title posters on the TV.

Server: 1.24.5.5173

I am experiencing the same on my LGTV (UH615V). Very laggy and choppy experience when navigating Plex.

Plex Server version: 1.24.5.5173
LGTV Client version: 5.26.3
Platform version: 3.4.0

Adding in my vote to this. Incredibly laggy, slow and some things like thumbnails or text just don’t load unless you make them hidden by navigating elsewhere, then back. This is with either the modern or classic experience selected.

It’s bad.

Plex Server: 1.24.5.5173
Samsung Client version: 5.25.3
Platform Version: 4

2018 Samsung TV - Model UN65NU710D
Software Version: T-KTM2LAKUC-1320.4

Same here, LG 2020 Nano

Client version: 5.26.30
Platform version: 5.3.0
Webos: 04.30.10
PMS: 1.24.5.5173

Hope this issue is resolved soon.

I think I fixed it on my Samsung TV.

Samsung TV > Open Plex > Settings > Appearance > Set:
Content Layout → Classic
App Background → None
Details Background → None

About 1 to 2 months ago I started experiencing the same problem. I don’t update as often as I’d like… I was hoping an update would fix this issue. I noticed fancy colors so figured I’d start by disabling them as noted above. Huge improvement.

Let me know.

Hi thanks for your reply.
But that doesn’t work.

Most people in the forum have tried that already. I even reinstalled the app and at the first pop-up screen I chose not to use the new modern layout that also didn’t work.

In addition a person in this forum said something about the network DNS SETTING.

I also tried that and as expected it didn’t work.

Still thanks for sharing

Additional Problem related to the tv app:

  • When I watch something on the tv and quit the movie/serie it doesn’t show in the continue watching list. The list does show stuff from other devices, like my laptop PLEX.

I have tried everything in this topic but it didnt help.

So please update TV app please.

One of the things that really makes an impression on me is that the lagging mostly comes from the images being loaded. For me, one of the slowest moments is when the cast of a movie is being loaded. I don’t know if Plex is using a CDN but if not, they should be doing that. CDNs are no longer expensive at all, so it could be done at least for paying users. Or maybe they could simply load them one by one async, with placeholders until the images have finished downloading.
Also, I’d propose that only 4 of the cast is loaded, with another (fifth) circle acting like a button after that if one wants to load the entire cast. Not sure where I am supposed to make such suggestions so that the Plex team would read them, but hopefully they’d listen. I also happen to be in a position to arrange large discounts for them should they consider the CDN option, so I’d be happy to help if I am ever contacted about that.

I think it will reach them without a doubt if you use the following link:

Good luck, and I hope they listen to you!

Still no update on this? The UI runs like ass on my Q9FN too.

How did they roll out such a miserable update?

Also throwing my hat into the ring - very sluggish UI on Samsung Q6FN. Particularly the background transitions.

Tried the various fixes suggested in this thread to no avail.

This is an issue for me on an LG C8 smart TV as of the latest update.

Tried turning off modern layout but the UI is still extremely slow.

New TV episodes no longer appear in the Series list for that show (only way I can access these is to play a previously viewed episode and then skip to the next one from there).

All of my other devices are working fine, this is just a recent issue on the LG app.

Yep same here on my C9. I never did the switch to the new interface but nonetheless the UI has definitely become more sluggish. It seems to me that the UI has been becoming increasingly sluggish over time - perhaps with each new release?

Didn’t fix it on my LG but thanks for the tips.

It’s just really laggy and ‘scetchy’ when moving right/left between shows/films.

I’d hope for at least some recognition from Plex support here, given the majority of us a paying customers.
