Hardware:
Running Plex server in docker on Unraid server running Ryzen 7 3700x with 64bg of RAM.
Plex on Shield TV is directly connected to gigabit ethernet and settings are set to direct play on the local network with maximum resolution.
Problem:
Plex constantly goes into indefinite buffering after about 5 minutes no matter what I’m playing.
Things I’ve tried:
Rebooting the Plex server.
Tested Plex from Roku Ultra in a different room over wifi and plays anything from Plex with no buffering even when transcoding.
Uninstalled the Plex app from Shield, rebooted Shield, and reinstalled Plex app.
Changed Plex settings on the Shield
- Tried both Classic and Modern layouts.
- Set to always allow insecure connections.
Ran Iperf3 test from Unraid to Shield and get a gigabit connection.
Maybe it’s just me but this seems to happen once every few months when a Plex update is released and then it’s usually fixed by another Plex update sometime later.
This is extremely frustrating. Outside of Plex, the Shield TV works great, but since this seems to be a reoccurring issue I’m thinking of ditching the Shield and going with a Roku Ultra since it never seems to have an issue.
Is anyone else dealing with this problem? Any workarounds or fixes that I don’t know of that might work?
