PLEX application on SONY TV with Linux OS 2012-2018 model years in RUSSIA (and probably in other countries) disappears from 25th of June, 2019 because of contract VEWD TV STORE discontinied.
When PLEX appear again on this TVs, because many other main applications on this TVs is stayed except PLEX TV app?
Old news. That happened to all Sony Smart TV devices that had the VEWD app.
This is not a news . This is a question what plex are going to do with this situation and how to return Plex on Sony after half year ! ?
Practically all Sony smart TV with Linux doesn’t have Plex for now ! I don’t know what about Linux 2019 Sony models , does Plex exists on that TVs ?
but need to return Plex to Sony Linux TV!! Think about it !
Installing the Plex app is only supported through an Appstore. Since Sony stopped using VEWD, they have not added back a different appstore, so there is no way for the Plex app to be installed. This is a limitation that Sony created not Plex. If Sony ever adds back an appstore, we might consider making the app available through that, but that’s something Sony has to do first.
I understand. This is clear. But Sony has a limited set of main apps (well-known local Russia internet cinema theaters , Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video and so on) , which goes without App Store for now. But Plex is also well known cinema app in Russian and in the world and can be in this list pre-install apps.
Those apps are there due to a special deal ($$$) they have with Sony. Unfortunately, Plex does not have such a deal.
Thank you for your reply ! I understand.
For my mind Sony have to pay Plex a lot of money for this deal for one more wonderful app in your empty Linux smart TVs:)) , but you have to agree to not give money from Sony and make your app for Sony free of charge :)) only this way :))))
Why you need to pay Sony if your app is always free of charge for most not Plex pass users ?
Smart TV’s don’t have a lot of memory, so having an app permanently installed takes up valuable space. This is not just Sony. Lots of companies do that. Think about those dedicated buttons on the remote to open things like Netflix. That doesn’t come free.
I know. But this is big call for Sony to return TV Store to practically all not very old modern TVs…
Realistically?
If SONY thought they could make money, not lose it - they’d have done it already.
Let’s explore work-arounds.
Can you buy a Roku in Russia?
(they give one away with a box of Crackers here)
