Sony plex

Opera tv refused to support TV sony smart tv.

Starting June 25th, the Vewd application (Opera tv) will be removed.

Through Vewd (Opera tv) I ran the plex player, I wrote technical support for sony, I was told that I needed to write technical support for plex in order for them to write an application for sony smart tv linux

Plex will be able to write an application for sony smart tv os linux TVs?

I have a sony TV with this system as well. and i have to say the “native” apps (youtube and netflix) seem like web apps to me.

Once i saw this announcement about vewd not supporting my tv anymore, I searched around and found out that the version of plex available on vewd can be accessed on any browser through https://plex.tv/web/tv/opera but when i fire this at my TV’s browser, I can only navigate with the remote as a mouse, not ideal at all.

Forum admins: could this be fixed by submitting a simple shell for the web app in this URL for sony? And since this model does not have an app store aside from vewd, how could we install it?

Sell it and buy a LG smart TV.

  1. It does not fit me

  2. In technical support sony Russia answered that Vewd refused to support sony
    https://community.sony.ru/t5/televizory/konets-kontrakta-s-vewd-25-06/m-p/2619127#M25606

It is also available at https://app.plex.tv/desktop

I like your idea

Or buy a TV set top box

@flow I appreciate your effort, but I think you do not understand what’s going on here. This is a method for loading an app on the store as a developer for testing purposes, which is not the case.
The store will not run anymore after june 25. Therefore I will not be able to run any vewd app, not the ones listed or any other sideloaded like you suggested.

I have thought of a possible solution for this: one of the apps listed on the tv (native) is “Looke” which I will never use and is apparently web-based, so i figured a dns spoof from its URL to plex’s might be successfull. Will post here if and when I get it done.

@Mkl that was just dumb. Why would I buy another tv after buying this one just a couple of months back?

great help, congrats!

Because is an outdated tv. I sold my old sony bravia KDL-40EX720 and buy my LG 43 UJ6560. And now i thing to sell it to buy an OLED LG Smart TV B8.

Possible solution: this IPTV app provides a way of loading itself from a USB drive connected to the TV:
https://ss-iptv.com/en/users/documents/installing
Theoretically you could replace the URL for this app on the text file with plex’s URL and have it run at startup, although I did try on my TV with no success (not even the unmodified iptv app url).

For the time being, I’ve been watching my movies using the DLNA feature on plex, but it lacks some important stuff such as subtitles.

Also, Sony has acknowledged the issue with Vewd and says they’re working on a solution: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00225600

There is no statement that they were working on a solution, isn’t it?

^What this guy says.^
Get a nvidia Shield or on a tighter budget a Xiaomi Mi Box and keep your old TV.

@KlausiMaus I was sent the portuguese version of this page which has additional information, but chose to send you guys the american version. Here’s the original: Encerramento do aplicativo VEWD TV Store (Opera TV) em TVs Sony modelos 2012 a 2019 | Sony Brasil

@Coxeroni you guys really need to understand i have JUST BOUGHT this 4K TV like 3 months ago! I’ve got no extra budget to mess around with. And frankly, I’d expect the platform support on a product this new to be much more extended.

Yes, indeed, but which version should one believe?

Well, sorry to say, but that was a bad choice buying a TV with an OS, which is not well supported by app manufacturer. I hope you learn from that lesson
Still, the streaming boxes are not that expensive and give you the platform/OS which you should have bought right from the beginning.

After my BIG research I can say this… There is NO work around… SONY doesn’t want to support android apps. So I found one and THE ONLY solution. GO TO APPLE STORE AND BUY APPLE TV BOX. After that, no matter what TV you will buy in the future. You will never have this problem again. It will be cheaper than buying a new TV and selling old one. !!!SONY SUCKS!!! I have two Samsung TVs and very happy with service.

My Sony Android TV works fine with Plex and any other apps. It is just the platform for the cheaper TVs (Viewd?) that is obviously not supported.
So no, Sony does not suck in general and other Android Boxes like the nvidia Shield work fine. So it is not necessary to enter into the Apple world just for Plex.

The only way to carry on with plex on the non andoid tv is to go to the Vewd demo site
if searching google look for Vewd app store 2.0 and launch that from your opera browser on the TV, This actually works like the old Sony app (ignore the message in Red saying test Device.) You may need to change browser settings in opera to standard view don’t leave in google mobile view when searching. It launches vewd and search for Plex under the apps. It will launch as before, just bookmark it in the opera browser. Then next time you need to use plex open the opera browser and open your bookmarks and launch Plex. This works fine so you can still use Plex on the no longer Smart Sony TV. Plex launches from a bookmark in your browser.

I have an KDL-32WD755 with the latest firmware, but I have no Opera-Browser!
How to activate a Browser?
