Plex Media Server Version#: 1.30.1.6497-7000
DSM Version#: DSM 7.7.1-42962 Update 1
DS920+
Hi,
For several months I have intermittently not been able to connect to my plex media server from any client.
The synology package shows as “running” but when I try to connect I get an infinite load. Restarting the plex package from within the synology interface immediately solves the problem and usually works for about a day.
About a week ago, I reinstalled plex and it fixed the issue for a few days (after I turned loudness analysis off due to the recent bug).
Loudness analysis remains off but my server still intermittently hangs when I try to connect. I have a hunch it’s a scanning issue during a scheduled task, but I’m not sure how to figure out what might be corrupted, etc.
There is a script floating around which automatically restarts the plex package when port 32400 stops listening, however this does not fix my issue, as synology thinks the plex package is still running. I just get an infinite load upon trying to connect with a client.
Logs are from after a reboot of the plex media server package; I can try to manually grab them from the synology interface after I notice the server hangs again. Plex Media Server Logs_2023-01-06_10-54-53.zip (3.5 MB)

Thank you so much, I saw that in the logs a while ago but googling didn’t result in much - as I’m nowhere near out of storage in my NAS - and missed it in the FAQ.
I’ve ran the script and will update with results after waiting a few days to verify I’m not encountering the same issue.
I believe I’ve fixed the above mentioned issue, but I woke up today to find my server experiencing the same behavior - infinite load when trying to access from any client, says it’s “running” on synology, I had to manually restart the synology package.
Yes, basically my entire NAS is hybrid cloud with google drive via the built-in synology service “Cloud Sync.” All of my plex libraries are just Drive folders. It worked pretty well for a few months but might be the culprit now? Maybe I should try rclone, I’ve used it a few times but am not super experienced with it.
Yes, I bet the period from ~8-11am was when it crashed. I know when I manually restarted it, it was at 11:49.
In the meantime I have turned off Analyze audio tracks for sonic features and will report back if I get another crash.
Following up on this, I have not experienced a crash in 15 days, so it was definitely “Analyze audio tracks for sonic features”. However this is one of my favorite features about plex, so I would quite like to get it working properly. If anyone can advise on how to do this, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you! Appears this fixed the issue with sonic analysis as well. I have re-enabled both loudness and sonic analysis and everything is working great.
The crash at 11:07 shows up at the end of Plex Media Server.1.log.
Plex is analyzing the music files, a user logs in with a mobile phone, then the system crashes.
Plex was having trouble analyzing some of the music files right before the crash.
Two suggestions, admittingly both a bit of a shot in the dark.
Remove the album Autechre - AE_LIVE (2019) from Plex. That is the album that was being analyzed when the system crashed.
Sometimes a bad file can cause problems for Plex during analysis. I don’t know that any of the music files from that album are bad, but removing it will help test things.
Delete the codecs. Plex will download latest versions when needed.
Stop Plex Media Server
In File Station (or SSH if you prefer), navigate to /PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Codecs.
Do not delete the device ID file.
Delete any other folders in the Codecs folder.
Start Plex Media Server
Give things a try and see if Plex makes it through the night without crashing.
If it still crashes I’ll reach out for additional assistance.
Unfortunately after working fairly consistently for the past few months, my server has been requiring a manual restart every morning again. The issue appears to be the same one as before. Any insights?
I generally keep my server updated to the latest version of plex media server. A recent update may have re-introduced the issue, as previous versions seemed to be more stable…
After working ok for a few months, Plex is once again requiring manual restarts daily. It seems to be related to the overnight analysis period again. I found this in the logs:
