I have a Plex Pass and Arcade subscription on my main admin account. This account has the sum of all content available to the Plex Media Server, some of which is not kid appropriate.
Since I can’t set Managed Users up for Plex Arcade and since the better pricing is stuck to the Plex Pass account, I’m wondering what my options are to have the kids with open access to this main account but without paying more than I have to and still have the less appropriate movies and TV shows available for the adults.
If there was a way that I could get the Plex Pass Arcade pricing on a new account just for the family-oriented games and shows, that would make it easier. Maybe what would be better is if Plex Pass holders had the ability to designate any one Plex account with an Arcade subscription at Plex Pass pricing. That would solve my problem.
Alternatively, is it possible to have the inappropriate stuff, admin rights, and PIN code off of this main Plex Pass account so the kids have an easier time getting to Plex Arcade, but another Admin account with the sum of all content. This account wouldn’t have Plex Pass so I’d have to evaluate what I’m losing in that scenario. I suppose the impact would just be to the shows and movies that aren’t on the restricted main PP account.
IT’s been mentioned before. I want to do the same thing as it will primarily be my kids playing the games in arcade but they used the Kid’s managed user account which doesnt have an account of its own and instead uses the admin account. Must be easy enough for Plex to allow the Kids account to access the games
So Kids as Managed User accounts is one thing, but I intended for my post to be about work-arounds.
Namely:
Can I somehow reduce the main Plex Pass admin account to a family-oriented level, removing adult content to make it the Arcade and Family Content account for all, but still have the adult TV shows and movies available to other accounts?
Or, basically a request of Plex to permit Plex Pass holders to designate any one account the Arcade account at Plex Pass pricing whether that’s the main admin account or a different one.
1 - No. You need a Plex Pass on the admin account to set up Games so moving this to another account wouldn’t help.
2 - Managed users can’t have a subscription, they can inherit benefits from Plex Pass. They do not inherit other subs like Tidal or Arcade due to how these are licensed.
Plex is looking at possibly finding a way to allow Managed users to use Plex Arcade.
For a workaround, have you considered setting up a second separate server and account just for your adult content?
Thanks, that’s great to hear that Plex is looking at options for Managed Users and Plex Arcade. I’m trying to support Arcade with my subscription, but I have to admit that I will eventually have to shut down the subscription due to lack of use if I can’t figure out a way to remove the barriers for my primary users (i.e. kids).
With respect to #1, I was suggesting leaving the main Admin account Plex Pass and Arcade subscription but only family-oriented content, then having another account on the same server which also or only has the adult content but no Plex Pass associated and no Arcade subscription.
It would seem by your suggestion of requiring a distinct additional server that the original Admin account of a Plex server has to have the superset of all content. That is, I cannot have more than one admin account on a Server and I can’t have content available on a non-Admin account that isn’t somehow available through the main Admin account, the one with Plex Pass and Arcade in my case.
An additional server isn’t an efficient option for me so for now I will have to wait for the Managed User option that Plex is looking at or some alternative.
I’d like a version of that for other Plex Pass features. I only use my Admin account for Admin things. I want it to see all of the Libraries, etc. I don’t use it for watching anything. Or listening via Sonos, which has similar limitations.
I don’t want the “Me” managed user I use for watching things to have the ability to delete things, or require a PIN (in my home), etc. I do want it to be able to control Sonos …
Simple answer is enable a concurrent user licence for Plex arcade. Simply allow all users to access plex arcade but limit concurrent use to the number of licences purchased. This would be a far better system and would probably encourage more people to buy additional licences for Plex Arcade. I for one would probably licence 2-3 users from the start and then if my users complain that they are struggling to find a licence i’d buy more based on demand.
