Why does my wife’s Plex account not inherit Plex Pass benefits from our server? She has her own plex account(not a managed user) that I added to our server, however she can’t leverage features, such as the sleep timer. Why?? I paid for a lifetime pass for our server, not for my account.
Assuming the answer is too bad, so sad (which feels like a bait and switch to me and promotes poor security through user account sharing), are there any options for migrating her viewing history over from the separate account to a managed user (which I assume would inherit the Plex pass benefits)?
That is not correct. The Plex Pass is for your account. If it was for your server, you’d lose your Plex Pass if your server ever died and you had to recreate it. And if you had more than 1 server, you would need another Plex Pass.
There are Plex Pass features that your server can then utilize and there are features that your account can utilize. Plex allows some of these benefits to extend to managed users or to other users you share your server with. It is not a blanket “shard users inherit all Plex Pass features”.
Sleep Timer is a new feature and currently limited to a Plex Pass account. Managed users do inherit this ability. This may change in the future but that’s the way it is as of now.

I get that’s not what you sold me. But that’s the reason I decided to part with my money for a plex pass, to get the features for my home media server, not so I could connect to someone else’s server and get features. Shame on me i guess for not doing the research to fully understand what i was getting.
I still think it’s a poor way to paywall your features, but at least I have an answer.
I understand you wouldn’t want to apply plex pass features to every account on the server since i could just attach dozens of accounts, but at least have the ability to apply it to like 4-5 family members in the household.
Now I get to tell my wife that she has to lose all her viewing history or miss out on features that my account has.
There have been requests for Plex to offer a family plan type of subscription. I don’t know when or if that will happen, but Plex is aware that users won’t to be able to expand all PP privileges to their whole family.
