Plex Pass License. Bound to media server or user account?

Current:

  • 5 home members
  • SMBv3 Share with media
  • end devices (android, iOS, windows) connect to share and play the files (r–)

Future:

  • local plex media server

How does the licensing for the plex pass work now?
Do i need to buy a plex pass for every member of my home or is it possible to license the plex media server?

Thanks.

by account.

you can have as many plex servers (and client/players) as you want.

IIRC, home members caps at 14 (admin+14)

there are 2 kinds of plex home members;

  • managed (these use YOUR account info, similar to netflix profiles)
  • un-managed (these users have their own plex account)

members of a plex home inherent some of the plex pass features/functions (mainly the server controlled functions), some of the newer client features require the actual client to be signed in with a plex pass account.

there are also the regular shared users (doesn’t require plex pass for server or client)

these may be of interest.
