Plex Pass Premium Music Stopped Matching

Hi,

I’ve been a Plex user for years. Same NAS, same folder structure, same methods. Everything is same old same old for me, but over the last week or so, Music is not automatically matching and I have to enter the information manually.

Is there a global issue that i’m unaware of?

One thing that I may have done is restricted network access to my server as I’ve had many people attempt to log into my server recently. If that is the case, are there IP address that people allow by default for matching?

Movies match fine, just Music, which is unexpected.

I have the exact same issue. See my thread below that is not resolved as of today. Let me know if you figure something out.

@sambrooks and @Dave97Snake,

As of July 1st, Plex has temporary discontinued a relationship with Gracenote. This has made useless temporary any Plex Premium Music library because the heart of the Plex Premium Music package aside from Tidal, which is an add-on, is using Gracenote to sonic fingerprint, Plex Mix, etc. Apparently, if you look around this forum, they are working with another provider (maybe MusicBrainz) to continue the premium music service and let it take the place of Gracenote.

All in all, this is yet another setback and disappoint for Plex. They are great at the visuals of and some of the functionalities of the service. However, if you are going to discontinue temporarily a core feature of a paid subscription, I find and I’m sure others find this completely unacceptable. Plex requires subscriptions to grow the evolving business. If you were going to discontinue one service, you had to replace it with another because people are supporting your revenue model.

It’s as if you are paying rent for someone each month and then they decide to temporary move out because they need to change something in themselves. They ask you, “Please continue to pay, I’m working on myself. There’s still great things about me, don’t worry.” If you get the idea, it may be a bad metaphor, but Plex Pass has a host of other features, premium music is a large part of that and the company is letting customers down with this removal of its premium service.

As one who purchased the Plex Pass back in April for $120.00, this is not the news I wanted to hear. I’ve already been complaining about album cover issues, and now this [unknown album] [unknown artist] issue is popping up as well. I don’t know, this isn’t sounding to good now :frowning:

see Important information regarding Premium Music libraries in Plex

There will be made available a way to convert your Premium library to whatever the developers come up with.
There is no need to delete your old premium library.

If you need new music to be matched right now, I recommend you to store new music in a separate folder and create a temporary ‘last.fm’-type library to watch this folder.

Interesting… Somehow my music is still getting matched, but for the last few days I’ve been hitting almost the opposite sort of issue: Every time the Plex scanner runs, it scans a lot (all?) of the same music in again as if it were new. e.g., Throughout the day if I check Plex while a music scan is running, the “Recently Added Music” section is adding tons of files that have already long existed on the server. Starting with artists whose name/band begin with the letter Z, and working all the way up to those that start with an A. I’ve got 40/k+ tracks so it’s a long scan…

And it seems to make the music scan crawl along very slowly – presumably because it’s reimporting/re-matching everything. And of course it makes the “Recently Added Music” section rather useless…

But from the sound of this thread I guess I’m lucky I’m getting matching at all.

I’m guessing maybe the issues are related – maybe Plex has to re-match everything with an alternate system because of the Gracenote problems, and that’s what I’m seeing happen? Perhaps they’re rolling out the new system to batches of users as a test, and I just fell into it before the others on this thread (I’m a long-time Plex Pass holder, always use the beta channels where available, etc)? Or maybe it’s an entirely different bug. Hmm. Hopefully it all gets sorted out for everyone soon.

Plex server: Mac Mini. Content storage: Synology NAS.

Sorry, but how do you do that? Is there a tutorial on this.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Is there any news as to whether an existing library will get converted? my ex-premium library is not matching anything since about a month and there is no communicated timeline or date or procedure to fix this. this is ridiculous.

Existing libraries will get converted, yes.
With server 1.16.3 I also got matches again for new items in my premium library.

Matching has not been a problem for me. New additions have been matched (although occasionally, I have to refresh metadata to get the right poster) I’m not even using the latest version of PMS.

Good to hear new libraries will be converted. I am afraid of what I’ll end up with though. If I remember correctly, the conversion, or creation, of a Premium library when it was first introduced ended up with a lot of weird stuff and mismatches. I really don’t want to deal with it again.

I used the features of a Premium library (particularly, Plex Mix). Sorry, but it’s a little scary and frustrating that we keep getting told how great the new system will be, but there’s absolutely no real info anywhere that I can find.

In 1.16.3.1402 I’m still getting No Match on items that are expected to be readily matched. Anything I can do?

Sorry, no. The new music stuff is not released yet.

Try this workaround for now: https://forums.plex.tv/t/new-albums-added-show-up-as-unknown-artist-and-unknown-album/429196/16?u=liquidtoon

This has been broken for over 2 months now; when will this be fixed?

There’s no way to tell.

The Plex team does not communicate with its customers…

In the meantime I pay every month for a function that is no longer available.

I think it’s high time that Plex releases a statement whether the music matching will be fixed for premium libraries or put forward a document on how libraries should be created if premium music libraries are no longer supported. This is absolutely no way to treat customers.

I’m already considering moving over to Emby. Even if they gave us timescales to it being fixed… i would be happy. Radio silence is awful!

Dang, thought this was just me, Yeah, this is total BS, especially since I paid for functionality that isn’t working because two companies wanna have a d*** measuring contest. At least give us a convenient workaround, don’t leave us high and dry. If I didn’t already invest in Plex I’d probably move to Emby too.
