I have selected to play New Release Cinema trailers before movies. Most times the trailer does not play and I get a spinning circle, but if I log into the media server (Windows Server 2012 R2) I see Transcoder.exe crash with avformat-58.dll referenced in the Event Log XML.
On rare occasions the trailer does play, but crashes after 15-20 seconds and the Web Play displays the error “Playback Error Conversion failed. The transcoder process crashed.” and I see the Transcoder.exe crash on the Media Server as per the first example.
I use Sophos Endpoint AV and have implemented exclusions for the Plex directory as a whole and the transcoder.exe file explicitly although this is redundant configuration.
