I have a plex pass. When I share movies with friends and family, I thought it is free for them. If so, why did they get this message? They were watching it on their ipad.
If they use the plex app on their tv, appletv, roku, is it free then?
The “mobile” Plex apps on iOS, Android and Windows mobile are not free.
They can be “unlocked” either
- with a one-time payment, which is then valid for all devices which are signed into the same app store account
- Plex pass subscribers can use all “paid” apps for free
- shared users, who are invited to the Plex Home of a Plex pass owner, will get the apps for free as well
Whether you want to invite these users into your Plex Home, so they get the app for free, is up to you.
But you must keep in mind that by doing so, you will also activate Fast User Switching

And the number of additional users in a Plex Home is restricted to 14.
All other Plex apps are free.

Thank you for that comment. Most people believe that the PlexPass buys the app outright. But it’s more like leasing the app.
