Hello!

I just got a new Samsung S90C TV as well as a Samsung Q990C Soundbar that supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The sound is great… when it works. Most of the time, on HDMI passthrough mode in PLEX, Google Chromecast surround sound set to auto, and the Chromecast plugged directly into the soundbar, I can get Dolby Atmos TrueHD content; what doesn’t work half the time is when I’m streaming a AAC 7.1 file. What happens is somewhere the audio isn’t passed through and ends up as stereo PCM instead of multi channel LPCM. This also seems to happen with AAC 5.1 playback.

However, it seems that when switching the passthrough mode to optical and setting the formats to EAC and DTS, I am able to get Dolby Digital on the AAC 7.1 titles. This however will render my Dolby Atmos setup useless since optical can only carry lossy audio.

TL;DR - LPCM passthrough for AAC content works maybe 1/10 times like PLEX can’t send the right audio.

do you still have this issue with the 10.5 update that just got released?

I am having issues with any DTS passthrough unless I switch passthrough mode to Optical, which then renders any HD audio codecs, like Atmos, disabled. HDMI passthrough will not passthrough any DTS core on the CCwGTV 4K. On the same TV+Q800C Soundbar setup, with plex app installed on the hisense fire tv itself, DTS passes through. On another setup with Denon AVR, no DTS passes through, which leads me to think it’s a CCwGTV issue.

I would look up what is the lpcm channels output of the tv… i have a hisense u8g and it can only output 2 channel lpcm…

If you have the same thing, then the tv is converting the 7 channels into 2.
